England standing?
[edit]Is he still second in line behind Roinson? I was under the impression that Sven would prefer Kirkland (if healthy)... —The preceding unsigned comment was added by SteelyDave (talk • contribs) 21:20, 27 January 2006 (UTC).
- Probably only Eriksson knows. Robinson is the only keeper who has played since the Denmark game, so it is not really accurate to call any goalkeeper the England No. 2 at the moment, I've edited the article accordingly. Kirkland has never played for England, so calling him second in line would be speculative. Oldelpaso 09:47, 28 January 2006 (UTC)
2007 in ACTIM stats was the best keeper the Prem, dont see Carson, Foster or Robinson near him yet James is still not in the England team, WHY because he is TOOOO OLD, now isnt that agest the LAW in the UK now!! Used to be a time in the england team you played till some one came along who was better than you, i understand why not to play some of the regs in friendlys but to kick them out because they are too OLD, Shilton Seaman, Pearce, Teddy, all getting on but were still top form past 30.User:AngelLaHash 18:22, 27 May 2007 (UTC)
I don't think it was his age, it was just 'fact' (until given a longer stretch to prove otherwise) that his form in league games don't translate to consistency in the international games.202.180.119.61 (talk) 09:10, 28 December 2007 (UTC)
Well, it's up to the manager to decide. To us, does it really matter? Up and over for a six! (talk) 06:40, 28 August 2008 (UTC)
Clean Sheet Record
[edit]How many clean sheets has David James attained? The Independent on March 19th said he was still one short of the (old?) record, yet this page was updated to say he achieved it.
[1] Zooterkin 08:43, 19 March 2007 (UTC)
Also found this - [2] on Feb 17, David James himself says he's "now two clean sheets away from breaking David Seaman's record", implying 140. Since then, he's had one clean sheet, against Reading on March 17. So, he's equalled the record, as of now. Zooterkin 11:26, 19 March 2007 (UTC)
David James
[edit]I have added information about David James' art. Evidence of this can be found in the July 2004 issue of FHM (UK). Drumnbach 15:31, 23 February 2006 (UTC)
NPOV and bias
[edit]Inclusion of lines such as:
David James is described as the most naturally gifted goalkeeper because of his impressive physique. He is agile and his level of fitness is second to none thus he is a domineering and commanding player
shows disregard for WP:NPOV. I hope that the editors of this and subsequent pages can go through and take care of this and any other biases on their own. Otherwise, I'll come back and likely delete more than would be done initially... ••\\/\//esleyPinkha//\/\\•• 22:12, 17 April 2006 (UTC)
Fair Comment
[edit]Maybe someone can provide a reference source as to who made the claim (e.g. was it said by someone in the media, hence it is their view and not WP's) Ianguy 11:49, 14 May 2006 (UTC)
- I think the above claim was irredeemably POV, but [3] has Stuart Pearce waxing lyrical about James' attributes. Oldelpaso 11:58, 14 May 2006 (UTC)
Nicknames
[edit]Right, that's a farcically large list in the infobox now. How many of them are actually real and how many are just used by a couple of mates down the pub? I've heard of Calamity James, but not anything else. HornetMike 20:25, 3 March 2007 (UTC)
- Jamo is genuine, he's been called that by teamates at several clubs (and England). The others seem fishy. No doubt "Superman" was added a few weeks ago when people got a bit worked up about his hair. Oldelpaso 20:47, 3 March 2007 (UTC)
- He uses Jamo in his column for the Guardian, and I've seen it lots of other places, so no doubts about that one. What about 'Day James' as in the opening paragraph? Zooterkin 11:30, 19 March 2007 (UTC)
- Never heard of him calling himself "Day". As a bit of an aside, "Day" is what I'm called by my family (shortened from Day-Day as my brother couldn't pronounce David), and my middle name is James. "Vampire" isn't a nickname it's more a "running joke" about him being afraid of crosses. Jamo/Jambo I've seen both bandied around West Ham fans. Calamity is valid. Superman sounds like bloody daft recentism.--Koncorde 13:24, 28 March 2007 (UTC)
- Ah, I found the original reference to Day James. IP 85.210.194.218 made the edit, and is a serial wiki spoiler.--Koncorde 20:01, 28 March 2007 (UTC)

Recent IP edit / trivia section
[edit]A recent IP edit changed some details in what was then the Trivia section with the edit summary "Well i am a part of his family and i was just corecting so please son't lie again like that.", which prompted me to look at the article in detail. I've since tried to clean up the section, adding references and removing anything for which I cannot find a reference. I've also removed the mention of his divorce settlement figure - most references couch it in terms like "alleged £x million settlement" and it appears to have been a point of contention to boot. Speeding conviction coverage
[edit]The coverage of his speeding conviction seems WP:UNDUE. Footballers have these sorts of incidents all the time. I'm going to cut it down to a sentence in a bit unless someone can explain why it deserves its own subsection. --BDD (talk) 21:56, 15 July 2012 (UTC)
- I've just gone ahead and removed it, since there didn't seem to be another way to fit it in. I'm not whitewashing anything; it's just a WP:UNDUE and WP:NOTNEWSPAPER thing. There's no lasting significance to this event. --BDD (talk) 01:12, 24 July 2012 (UTC)
In 1999, when. James was in a car accident that killed a pensioner couple, he was alleged to be speeding and evidence was provided that he was on the phone while driving. But he was ruled not at fault. http://www.wirralnews.co.uk/wirral-news/local-wirral-news/2004/10/08/player-recalls-after-effect-of-crash-which-killed-couple-80491-14733771/ 124.171.55.253 (talk) 10:01, 22 October 2013 (UTC)

Hi, I have just witnessed a podcast where David James speaks of a game where he played as a striker for Manchester City. Myself and many others truly believe he should be credited/recognised for this. Please can we see this edited into either his position being Goalkeeper/Striker or mention it about his time at Man City.
