The comment(s) below were originally left at Talk:David Ho/Comments, and are posted here for posterity. Following several discussions in past years, these subpages are now deprecated. The comments may be irrelevant or outdated; if so, please feel free to remove this section.

Rated start class for the following reasons:
  • Photograph, date of birth present
  • References present but some material unsourced
  • Some information on research interests, but could be expanded.
  • Needs editing for PoV, there are some inflated claims
  • Lacks appropriate subheadings
  • Some useful external links present, but list could do with pruning

David Ho (scientist)David Ho – I am far more of an art person than a science person, and even to me, it's extremely obvious who the primary topic is. In terms of Wikipedia page views, it's not even close. In terms of Google, 249 unique hits for the AIDS researcher [1], 166 unique hits for Vancouver's David Ho [2], 163 for the artist [3]. Regarding last mulitple edits by anonymous IP

[edit]

your last edit overwrite a sentence which I had take effort to put a neutral <<Asian American from Taiwan>>....

you have been vandalising without vaild reason (in edit summary) for 4 times.....

there are some people out there who would said he's Taiwanese American, but since there are dispute among some Pro-communism Waishengren who regarded themselves as Chinese-Americans, especially if they are Civil War refugees from mainland china, I had put it as neutral <<Asian American from Taiwan>> becuase:

  • He is born there in Taiwan (Had he born in America, that would qualify as Chinese American, but he's born in Taiwan
  • He doesn't identify himself with Communist China (PRC)
  • Some Citizen of ROC Taiwan regard themselves as ROCers but that would confuse these ROCers and mistaken as PRCers
  • Furthermore, since David Ho is born in Taiwan, labelling him as "Chinese-American" would mean outright foraying into politics of legitimacy between or legitimacy of one of Two Chinas
  • Lastly, for the same reason he's born in Taiwan, calling him "Chinese-American", implying he's born in Mainland China is outright lie.
  • For the record, I tag 2600:1700:438A:C800:A14C:A694:7FF:7D62 (talk) with Level 1 Vandalism warning....even though this anon IP had vandalised 4 time already.

Update: the whole IP range 2600:1700::/32 was just blocked for vast amount of vandalism.

Cat12zu3 (talk) 03:40, 24 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]

The problem is that the sources do not use the term 'Asian American', far less 'Asian American from Taiwan'. It is not a story of some people out there who would said he's Taiwanese American, it is what the sources almost unanimously use. The two first sources use the term 'Asian American' in their title (to include mainland Chinese, Indian and other), but in the description of Ho they all say 'Taiwanese American'. Wikipedia goes by the sources, so that is how we have to describe him. End of story.
On another note, it seems very strange to use most of the lede to discuss his early years and education. I will move that to a new section 'Early life' ans just summarise it in the lede. --T*U (talk) 06:14, 24 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Another anon IP vandalised without vaild reason or discuss at talk page again, for the 5th time

2600:1700:438a:c800:1522:11f1:f1a6:54b9 (talk)
I tag that anon IP with Level 2 Vandalism warning, even though already it's 5th time anon IP had vandalised it.

Marital & personal status

[edit]

About his status & ADARC website on ADARC staffs

[edit]

I'm not sure if that alleged David Ho personal/family status is true.

I had seen [Columbia Univ ADARC staff] [(archived)] about Wendy Chen.

But common sense wouldn't tag minor edits when changing the content, even the meaning of a content, regardless of whether tech-savvy or not, or older than Gen-X or not. That would be deceptive at all.

Becuase of misusing minor edits, I still wary and can't be sure that both Wc2713 and Daviddaiho accounts indeed belong to [Wendy Chen] [(archived)] and David Ho. Can't be sure.

Because of lack of info publicly, including ADARC official website, or even reliable news sources, and both wiki accounts lack of verified sources...I'm not sure if that alleged David Ho personal/family status is true.

So for now, I remove David Ho's spouse and children, unless David Ho can comes forward and identify/verified himself to update about his family. Any changes has to come from David Ho himself.

@Cat12zu3: The resume is provided on the official lab website [4] Hyphenation Expert (talk) 13:51, 28 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Oh, just recently per PDF metadata, as in few hours ago today. I see. Thanks. Cat12zu3 (talk) 14:16, 28 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Was told per WP:BLPSELFPUB is never for third parties, self-published sources (like a person's resume/CV or staff page) can be used for basic, non-controversial claims about that person, but never for third parties. And to wait for reliable, secondary sources to report this claim. Cat12zu3 (talk) 17:56, 28 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Hence removed David Ho's spouse and children. Cat12zu3 (talk) 19:20, 28 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Dear Cat12zu3,
Please let me know what other reliable source that is needed to have Tera Wong and Ho's four children listed on David Ho's wiki page in addition to adarc at cumc website.
Thank you,
Wendy Wc2713 (talk) 17:09, 11 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]
If I'm not wrong, it should be covered by an independent reliable source, such as the reliable media, news media, reputable book, etc.
(With regards to his CV or Bio info from his own insitution, these self-published source can be applied to himself but cannot be applied to 3rd parties, meaning his other family members)
Maybe you can ask at Wikipedia:Biographies of living persons/Noticeboard
Otherwise we should leave out info about his family members empty/private in wikipedia. --- Cat12zu3 (talk) 17:24, 11 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Had found about Wikipedia:Biographies of living persons#Self-published sources, quoting:
  • written or published by the subject of the article (meaning can be use to describe himself only)
  • publish material about themselves...may be used as a source only if...it does not involve claims about third parties (meaning his other family members)
So unless there is another independent reliable source, such as the reliable media, news media, reputable news/entertainment magazine, reputable book, etc., we should leave out info about his family members in wikipedia. --- Cat12zu3 (talk) 17:45, 11 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Similarly his spouse bio....her own biography can only used to mention herself and not other family members...so unless there is another independent reliable source, eg reliable news media, reputable news/celebrity magazine, reputable books, we still leave out info about his other family members in wikipedia. You can ask Wikipedia:Biographies of living persons/Noticeboard if you have more questions regarding this matter. Regards. --- Cat12zu3 (talk) 06:29, 12 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]
