NPOV

[edit]

The tone of this article lacks impartiality. I have removed several peacock phrases and chunks of editorial comment. I have also added some citations. However, a lot of its content appears to be taken from D. J. McLaren's biography of Dale and it would improve the article if an editor with access to that book could supply the missing in-line refs. Place of death

[edit]

Hi :)

I am doing some research and have a feeling that there is inaccuracy with the location of death. Charlotte Street, to the best of my knowledge, is in Calton not Cambuslang. I don't know anything beyond what I have learnt during my past 15 mins of research, but I believe he died in the city centre home not his country house. If anyone else can confirm this, please edit but I don't have the time to investigate it and be sure myself right now!

Thanks,

Hi @Chlopim, thanks for raising this. According to the Oxford Dictionary of National Biography (ODNB) – which is usually pretty authoritative – Dale died at his house, Rosebank, in Cambuslang so I've updated the article to reflect this. The previous citation for his death location was the 1805 Glasgow Post Office Directory (the year before he died), which presumably simply listed that he had a house on Charlotte Street in Glasgow (according to the ODNB he had the Charlotte Street house built in 1783). — LittleDwangs (talk) 16:58, 22 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]
