For the Love of the Game

I recently watched the documentary ″For the Love of the Game″ [1]. The BBC production follows Beckham's 10-day-trip around the world to football pitches on 7 continents (incl. Antarctica). It ends with an all-star-game for UNICEF at Old Trafford in Nov. 2015. I was surprised this WP bio has no mention of this at all. Would it better fit somewhere under charity work or film appearance? --Pakeha (talk) 15:47, 10 January 2017 (UTC)

Sourcing

Just a reminder that WP:BLPSOURCES applies here, meaning we cannot use Mail or Express or Mirror etc. Where items are worth including they will have been covered in better sources. --John (talk) 17:03, 5 February 2017 (UTC)

I disagree. Just because an article appears in a tabloid newspaper does not necessarily make it tabloid journalism. Decisions should be made on a case by case basis. – PeeJay 12:49, 6 February 2017 (UTC)
Your disagreement is noted. It would be smarter to state here why you think this material is vital and we must make an exception for it, than to edit war. --John (talk) 14:56, 6 February 2017 (UTC)
  • I am astonished to see that none of the current controversy about his emails is mentioned in the article. People like me come here to read the facts of the matter. Jack1956 (talk) 00:51, 7 February 2017 (UTC)
Well, if you can find a source other than the Daily Mail, go right ahead and add it. Wikipedia is the encyclopaedia anyone can edit, after all. – PeeJay 11:39, 9 February 2017 (UTC)

Beckham and Dictatorships

As was evidenced this past week by his visit to Thailand, David Beckham is willing to do business in dictatorships where human rights abuses have occurred and free speech is denied. [1] NaturalEquality (talk) 13:47, 2 July 2017 (UTC)

change height of David Beckham from 183 cm to 180 cm through website=https://www.dfb.de/datencenter/personen/david-beckham/spieler

Not done What makes the German Football Association an authority on David Beckham's height? He never played for a German club. – PeeJay 16:15, 11 February 2019 (UTC)
It's a trustworthy source, he doesn't have to play in bundesliga. It's not the Daily Mail, it's a Football Association. Is it a weird piece of minute banter from German FA to England FA to take away a mere 3 centimetres? 109.156.133.230 (talk) 12:06, 14 February 2019 (UTC)
How is it a trustworthy source about David Beckham's height though? He was never registered with the DFB, so why would they have any biographical/physiological data on him beyond what we could get anywhere else? – PeeJay 13:08, 14 February 2019 (UTC)

The Legal Issues section is poorly written, to the point that upon reading it it is not clear what he was charged with or why. "He previously pleaded guilty to using the device while driving" brings up the question, what devic? The next line implies it is a phone, but that is never explicitly stated, nor if the charges were brought up by the public, the police, etc. 216.154.62.174 (talk) 03:39, 12 August 2019 (UTC)

I would like to request that David Beckham's Wikipedia page be edited to include the recent controversy surrounding his deal with Qatar in the 2022 World Cup and the subsequent online battle with Joe Lycett which has seen David Beckham's reputation as an LGBTQ+ ally destroyed. I think it's an important event to document particularly for such a popular figure who has so far failed to directly address the LGBTQ+ issues in Qatar whilst showing ongoing support for the country despite backlash from the LGBTQ+ community and allies. 90.212.199.192 (talk) 00:21, 16 December 2022 (UTC)

Description

Despite being an extremely famous and recognizable name I don't think most people consider David Beckham to be one of the greatest midfielders of all time. Many don't even regard him as a greater player than the likes of Ryan Giggs or Luis Figo, who barely make it to anyone's top 10 list. Ultimately it depends on how many players in history does one think he has to be "greater" to be called "one of the greatest, but claiming so right away can mislead people into thinking that he was a better player than he actually was. Perhaps "being hailed as one of the best midfielders in his time" would make a better and more neutral description of him. Mottepchanh (talk) 15:57, 11 May 2023 (UTC)

yes i reverted that addition but User:Scientelensia forced it back into the article: https://wiki.riteme.site/w/index.php?title=David_Beckham&diff=prev&oldid=1154185687 --FMSky (talk) 16:19, 11 May 2023 (UTC)
