Rewritten for tone, neutrality

[edit]

I rewrote this article and removed the COI template. Left the tone and POV tags for now - hoping that someone else can evaluate and edit accordingly. The UC template is there because I need to make sure the references are in the right places - I think they are but I need to double check with fresh eyes. Thanks. I've checked all of the refs (cut some content, added some details and a {{cn}} tag on an assertion that may or may not be supported behind the WSJ payroll. Any objections to removing the POV/tone tags? (I think his accomplishments are underplayed now, but that's just me.) JSFarman (talk) 23:06, 25 June 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for taking this on, JSFarman; please do remove the tags if you see fit. I was – and even now to some extent remain – concerned that the content was supported only in the most approximate fashion by the sources. I've just removed some bits of pure fantasy from the early life section. Are you certain beyond reasonable doubt that the rest of the content is limited to what the sources actually say?
You've presumably looked at all of the sources. Which of them supports the date and place of birth information? Because unless it's cited, that should be removed (WP:BLP).
I'm also concerned about copyright. If the source reads "... became an expert in digital signal processing, satellite communications and fiber optics and worked on the technology that would eventually be dubbed ISDN" then our article surely should not read "… he worked on digital signal processing, satellite communications and fiber optics as well as the technology that would later be termed ISDN"? Regards, Justlettersandnumbers (talk) 23:39, 25 June 2017 (UTC)[reply]
You are speedy *and* thorough, Justlettersandnumbers! I wasn't focused on the early life last time through, but I've gone through everything related to his career (as CTO and athlete) twice. I added a ref for dob and did my best to rewrite the sentence about his work with ISDN. (I wrote it as I did originally because I'm not entirely sure what the technology that became ISDN would have been called, but that's the only instance of a possible copyright issue.) Thank you!
