A tag has been placed on Dave Cortese, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G11 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the page seems to be unambiguous advertising which only promotes a company, group, product, service, person, or point of view and would need to be fundamentally rewritten in order to become encyclopedic. Please read the guidelines on spam and Wikipedia:FAQ/Organizations for more information.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, and you wish to retrieve the deleted material for future reference or improvement, then please contact the deleting administrator. • Concerns about the neutrality of this article go back to 2007, and I failed to find an edit written from a neutral perspective in the last 10 years. This would make it extremely difficult to rewrite the article given the amount of time that has passed. Trainsfan (talk) 19:55, 8 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Untitled

[edit]
  • The article looks like a cut-and-paste job from his official biography. It needs considerable re-writing and all the stuff about "being considered a leader" has to go unless it can be properly referenced. -- Lincolnite 12:41, 3 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]
  • The most recent edits don't strike me as neutral in tone, and they seem to be a response to 1) the recent removal of his press bio from the page, and 2) his ongoing election. The SJMN quote, in particular, stands out as a press release item and not a neutral biographical fact. It would be nice if someone neutral (which is not me, unfortunately) would review this for NPOV and make any edits that might be justified. -- Jokeboy (talk) 20:01, 29 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]
    • Had there not been TBSDY's initial start to revert to, I honestly would have probably deleted this as a G11. Anything here needs to be strictly neutral, not the campaign-flyer garbage that it was. If someone would like to put in facts rather than fluff about this tenant's rights issue, and source it properly, I think that would work. Seraphimblade Talk to me 08:48, 3 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]
      • Thanks for the edits. I actually think Kurykh's edit isn't bad, and it provides a little more detail. But some of it will be irrelevant or dated as of Wednesday anyway... Jokeboy (talk) 19:26, 3 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Orchard?

[edit]

Didn't he have a family-owned cherry orchard near San Felipe and Delta? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 68.126.177.124 (talk) 17:25, 6 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Use of Ballot Statements

[edit]

Repeated attempts have been made to insert content from Cortese's election ballot statements as part of his biography, first by quoting them verbatim, then by using them as a reference. I've deleted them both times and quoted WP:BLPSPS as the reason. I'm getting pushback, so I'd appreciate someone weighing in as to whether I'm correct in my interpretation of this. I can't imagine anything more "self-published" than an election ballot statement. JGriffithSV (talk) 23:58, 10 October 2014 (UTC)[reply]

And it gets worse. The article now says "his accomplishments include securing funding for more school crossing guards and an evaluation of 'hot spots' of pedestrian and bicycle accidents and fatalities in order to improve conditions". The citation for this detail is an op-ed that Cortese himself wrote for the Mercury News, which fails WP:BLPSPS big-time. I'm pretty sure the facts being referenced are correct - but the cite isn't a valid cite. I'm not willing to whack the text of the facts, but the cite needs to be removed and hopefully replaced. Contested deletion

[edit]

I'm not the page creator, or (at the time of this contested deletion) a contributor to this article, and while I agree that it needs a rewrite, it shouldn't be deleted as Deletion is not cleanup. Article passes WP:NPOL as Cortese is a member of a state legislature in the United States, and they are presumed notable under Wikipedia:Notability (people)/Subnational politicians. While I only somewhat agree with @Trainsfan that a rewrite would be difficult, I don't think it would be impossible. -- reppoptalk 20:54, 8 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]
