Relation
[edit]DK Gaekwad was a distant relative to the Baroda royal family. Players, Patrons and the Crowd mentions another relationship through marriage :
- Through the agency of Sardar WS Ghorpade, brother-in-law of Pratapsingh and captain of the Baroda side, he recruited many cricketers from other sides ... Later additions to the Baroda side included ... DK Gaekwad, a distant relative of the royal house who married daughter of Sardar WS Ghorpade, .. p.45).
Thus according to this source, DK was the brother-in-law of JM Ghorpade whose father WS Ghorpade was the brother-in-law of Maharaja Pratapsinghrao Gaekwad. But there is not much to corroborate either of the relations. WS Ghorpade was the father of Test cricketer J.S. Ghorpade and Fatehsinghrao Gaekwad was the son of Pratapsingh. If WS Ghorpade was the b-i-l of Pratapsingh, he should have been the uncle of Fatehsinghrao. But Cricketarchive mentions JS Ghorpade - and not WS - as the uncle of Fatehsinghrao.
Indian Princely States mentions of a daughter of Pratapsinghrao who was married to a Ghorpade. This Ghorpade is unlikely to be either the brother or son of WS Ghorpade and that confuses the matter further.
Cricketarchive also doesn't mention any relations between Ghorpades and Gaekwad.
