The end of the timeline in this article is backward. Return of the Crimson Gaurd takes place just before Toll The Hounds. Dassem boards the ship at the end of RoTCG, which crashes shortly before TtH (at the beginning of TtH, he has just washed up on a beach and has to kill a bear and drink it's heart's blood to survive). Also, I think it should be mentioned that it is widely believed that Anomander Rake intentionally allowed himself to be killed by Dassem, and that Dassem knew this when it happened. This was possibly the reason for his aforementioned grief after Rake's death, and also possibly was Cotillion told him just before he met Rake in Darujistan.
