Cinders vs Pumice vs Scoria

[edit]

Widely called a cinder pit, this source mentions only pumice production. Meanwhile this states "cinder" is a term for scoria, and that scoria should not be confused with pumice. So how should we technically describe the product(s) of this mine if "cinder" is colloquial? Input from a geologist would be helpful.----Pontificalibus 13:15, 29 January 2020 (UTC)[reply]

At this time the revised Wikipedia page for Cinder looks like it is going to be merged with Scoria. As a geologist, "scoria aggregate" would be the term to technically describe the product of this mine. The latest and presumably last revision of the Wikipedia article for cinder is archived on the Wayback Machine. It provides a discussion of scoria versus cinder. Paul H.
