Concerns re: Edits Made by Howie Hawkins Page Editors
[edit]An editor who also pursued the removal of sourced info on allegations raised by Hunter and other candidates from the Howie Hawkins 2020 presidential campaign page, has at the same time (i.e. within the same 24 hr period) been making Hawkins-centered and unsourced edits to this page that do not adhere to NPOV. Howie Hawkins is the former competitor to Hunter in both the Green Party and Oregon Progressive Party presidential primaries. The edits have since been modified to reflect Wikipedia standards.
I raise the concern here to alert editors to the potential for vandalism of the article. While I maintain the assumption of good faith (i.e. the editor may believe the edits are warranted), Wikipedia standards must still be observed and the cross edits - considering both content and context - are not a good look. Audentis (talk) 08:59, 27 August 2020 (UTC)
- Since you're talking about me, it is common courtesy to tag me here. I've been editing Wikipedia for over 14 years so being described as a "Howie Hawkins Page Editor" is both highly reductionist and definitely not assuming good faith. Editors are free to make edits where they see fit.--User:Namiba 15:03, 27 August 2020 (UTC)
- Editors are not free to make edits where they see fit. They are free to make edits that conform to Wikipedia policy. 179.53.72.255 (talk) 23:51, 27 August 2020 (UTC)
- Why would you remove the sentence about Hunter winning the Oregon Progressive Party primary? There’s no justifiable Wiki policy reason for doing that. It was sourced and it is a fact. Trashing duly sourced facts about the subject (that happen to be positive) just smacks of plain old vandalism. 179.53.72.255 (talk) 23:57, 27 August 2020 (UTC)
- I did not remove it. I restored it in a second edit. You should look more closely before making wild accusations.--User:Namiba 15:07, 28 August 2020 (UTC)

Progressive Party
[edit]The article repeatedly calls Hunter an independent candidate. So do sources like The Spectator, Ballot Access News among other sources. Hunter has the ballot label Progressive but there is no national Progressive Party that has nominated him. As such, Wikipedia should reflect the sources and not assert that he is the Progressive Party nominee.--User:Namiba 15:08, 27 August 2020 (UTC)
- The article clearly indicates that Hunter initially ran as an independent. However, he has since decided to run as a Progressive Party candidate. This is just a fact. Candidates are entitled to run under any party they choose, editors don’t get to decide what is and isn’t a party or rebut the subject of a political article when they declare their party affiliation. That’s a insertion of an editor’s opinion and that is against Wikipedia policy. Wikipedia is not a soapbox. Just stick to the facts and sourcing them. 179.53.72.255 (talk) 23:48, 27 August 2020 (UTC)
- There is no Progressive Party. It's just a ballot label that he chose. If you can provide proof of a Progressive Party that nominated him, or even the existence of a unified Progressive Party that exists outside of Dario Hunter's ballot line, please present it here. I've provided multiple sources which demonstrate that the accurate description is independent with the Progressive ballot label. Please provide sources to counter these claims by independent, non-trivial sources.--User:Namiba 15:03, 28 August 2020 (UTC)
- User:NamibaYour criteria is self-created and has no basis in Wikipedia policy. Sources have been provided that Hunter has chosen to run as a candidate for the Progressive Party. There’s no process of Wikipedia assessment of the viability of political parties in order to state the fact of a candidate’s affiliation. You’re entitled to believe the Progressive Party is not viable, doesn’t have a suitable nomination process, isn’t a unified national party - those are all OPINIONS you’re entitled to have. You’re not entitled to remove facts about Hunter’s stated affiliation as a Progressive Party candidate, as sourced to his own statement and the source provided in the article for his ballot line designation. You’re not entitled to insert your opinions into Wiki editing. Please stop removing facts from the article without valid Wikipedia reasons. You’ve made your allowed number of reverts. - FYI, here’s a link to the Federal Election Commission party committee profile for The Progressive Party of the United States: https://www.fec.gov/data/committee/C00755041/ Hunter is listed as the treasurer on filings. Audentis (talk) 07:03, 29 August 2020 (UTC)
- Here the link to Hunter’s most recent statement of candidacy: https://docquery.fec.gov/cgi-bin/forms/P00010124/1432455/ It states ‘PRU’ under party. That party abbreviation appears as the abbreviation for the Progressive Party of the US on its party committee filings (linked to above). Although the statement of candidacy before the most recent one said ‘independent,’ this one changes that status to Progressive. Audentis (talk) 07:26, 29 August 2020 (UTC)
- Neither link you've provided above includes any mention of a Progressive Party. There are no sources showing he was nominated by said group or that said group even exists.--User:Namiba 13:36, 29 August 2020 (UTC)
- ”Neither link... includes any mention of a Progressive Party.” What are you talking about? The FEC party committee profile page (linked above) is entitled “The Progressive Party of the United States.” It says in bold letters at the top of the page “The Progressive Party of the United States.” And if you click ‘Filings’ on the left column, you can access a ‘Statement of Organization’ for the party committee of (you guessed it) ‘The Progressive Party of the United States.’
I get that you have your opinions and your feelings about this. But neither opinions nor feelings are facts. The party exists. And the sources in the page corroborate that he’s running for that party. Someone being so hellbent to remove those facts from the article is concerning, especially since this is about an election in progress. How do you force someone to be an ‘independent’ when they say they are not and their candidate filings say they are not? Just because you personally don’t take their party seriously? There’s no Wiki policy accommodation for those feelings on your part, just the facts. Audentis (talk) 14:02, 29 August 2020 (UTC)- "We don't have PROGRESSIVE PARTY OF THE UNITED STATES for 2019–2020." There is no Progressive Party. I will say it again: Everything on Wikipedia must be verifiable through independent sources. Show multiple, independent sources which demonstrate its existence. It must have had a convention to nominate Hunter, right? Show a source demonstrating it. Show literally ANY ACTIVITY that proves it exists and that Hunter is the nominee. Hunter himself filed to create this "party" on August 5, 2020 according to the FEC. It is a "party" that exists only in the mind of Dario Hunter. Pretending that it is anything other than that is a misrepresentation to the public and a violation of the expectations of editors to Wikipedia.--User:Namiba 14:30, 29 August 2020 (UTC)
