Canadian origin?
[edit]In a certain strip (page 109 in Bucky Katt's Big Book of Fun), he mentions that Get Fuzzy is 100% Made in America -- out of components pre-assembled in Canada. His characters also have a marked tendency to mention Montreal or Toronto, or to wear Montreal Expos or Quebec Nordiques shirts. Does anyone know what the connection between Conley and Canada is? ralian 19:56, 8 April 2006 (UTC)
Probably none, like me, Darby Conely probably just thinks canada is a funny and random punchline to add to anything. Just a bit of randomness probably, but dont take my word for it... --68.38.152.165 10:58, 16 May 2007 (UTC)
"Self-links"? Not exactly...
[edit]I made a mistake in my edit summary for this edit. These aren't self links as I said in my summary, but the links I removed are redirects to the Get Fuzzy article, which is linked directly earlier in the article.
So I goofed in my summary, but that's my intent. SchuminWeb (Talk) 06:07, 22 June 2006 (UTC)
Garfield take-off
[edit]Has anyone else noticed the similarities between Get Fuzzy and Garfield?
- Loser human who has trouble with jobs and women
- Sharp-tongued cat with sarcastic and aggressive tendencies
- Dim-witted but lovable dog, usually the butt of many jokes and pranks by the cat
I'm not sure if this is worthy of mention in the article (unless Conley admits to being influenced by Garfield). — Loadmaster 16:24, 26 October 2006 (UTC)
- You have to really dilute the two strips to make the similarities greater then the differences, so I would say no. Not only in the chracters, but in the plot devices used, the level of adult humor and references prevelant, and the overall theme of the strips. Rob isn't a 'loser' human (certainly not to the degree of John from Garfield), Bucky just calls him that because Bucky is antagonistic. Garfield is lazy, Bucky is closer to manic. Odie doesn't speak, and is portrayed as dumb. While Satchel is dumb, he is also used combined with the fact he can speak to portray the more noble and kind counter of the comic. If you take a very simple minded approach of "They have a human, a cat, and a dog" you can make them similiar, but I think it would be a stretch for you to find a recognized literary critic or other legitmate voice in the medium to agree with it. As said before, if Darby Conley said it was an influence by all means add and link, otherwise it's just a biased personal opinion and not allowed by Wikipedia.
- Conley himself is obviously aware of certain similarities: there's one storyline in which Bucky gets a Garfield book for Christmas, decides it's some sort of unauthorized biography of him, and considers suing the fat cat. 71.248.115.187 (talk) 02:40, 14 December 2009 (UTC)
Awards?
[edit]I'm not sure living near Boston counts as an award. 585ad205105278a06716f2ebe4c82c92 (talk) 13:33, 20 December 2010 (UTC)
