Place and date of birth

[edit]

Many obituaries state that Ireland was born in Vancouver. In his interview with Cinema without Borders Ireland explicitly mentions portland and his dual citizenship: „I was born in Portland Oregon but my parents moved to Vancouver when I was five, so I have dual citizenship“. Also the obituary of his mother mentions „Betty married Seaforth Highlander RSM Rainsford H.W. Ireland, moved to Portland, Oregon, and gave birth to four children before returning home to Vancouver seven years later.“

His date of birth differ widely between the available sources:

  • According to Variety: aged 57 in April 2016, which seems to fit to May 11, 1958 in the article. Please note two comments below the article:
    • Pat says (April 16, 2016 at 12:44 pm): „I think Dan was 67. He hired me as an usher at the theatre he managed in Vancouver in 1969. I don’t recall him being 10 years old at the time. It was a fun job and he was a great guy to work for.“
    • R. Kleinberg (October 26, 2016 at 4:14 pm): „You are correct. His birthday was May 11, 1949. Danny Boy – you are ageless. All angels are. I will always love you.“
  • Scotts Movies states, Ireland lived from 1958 until 2016.
  • A Seattle Times interview from August 2003 mentions his age 52, indicating a dob in 1950 or 1951 (or 1949, if the interview would be few months old). The article also states that Ireland was „in his early 20s“ before 1975 and „he was a theater manager for the Canadian chain Famous Players“. In this case he could not be born in 1958.
  • A Patheos interview from January 1997 mentions, he is aged 46. So he should be born around 1950.
  • Advocate issue of March 30, 1999 mentions a age of 48 years, which also indicates a dob in 1950 or 1951.
  • According to the LA Times Ireland was „bit by the movie bug at the age of 5 when his parents took him to the drive-in to see "Them!", which was released in the summer of 1954. It is also mentioned that he worked as an usher in 1965 and graduated from high school in 1967. All this indicates a dob in 1949.
  • He moved to Seattle in 1975, opened the Moore Theatre and established the SIFF Festivals in 1976, see e.g. citylivingseattle.com or sydneysbuzz.com. This would be very unlikely for a person born in 1958.
  • His family's obituary mentions that he „moved to Seattle in his 20s to pursue a life-long dream of working in the film industry.“ Therefore he must be born before 1955.
  • FamilyTreeNow.Com has a record for Daniel Frederick Ireland alias Dan Ireland, who lived since 1988 in Los Angeles, and who was born in 1949.
  • Instantcheckmate.com has a record for L Daniel F. Ireland, livin in Angeles, and born in May 1949.

Bottom line: his date of birth is disputed but most likely he was born in 1949. Any comments? --NiTen (talk) 22:20, 4 March 2017 (UTC)[reply]
