Daiwie Fu's proof of wriitng an article
[edit]This is about proof that one of the article authors is 傅大為. I posted on a noticeboard but got carried away
I want to see if 傅大為 is the Chinese characters for "Daiwie Fu" [sic] who wrote "On Mengxi bitan's World of Marginalities and 'South-pointing Needles': Fragment Translation vs. Contextual Tradition" for De l'un au multiple: Traductions du chinois vers les langues européenes. There is a resume of a Daiwie Fu here sts.ym.edu.tw/index.php?act=member&pid=0&cid=0&id=7 http://archive.is/WLyYw
The work isn't listed there (the essay is from 1999). How do I get past versions of Daiwie Fu's resume to try to source that the Daiwie Fu who wrote the article has the Chinese name 傅大為? (and therefore has the Wikipedia article zh:傅大為). I'm trying to find pages that mention him at http://web.archive.org/web/20000301125640/http://www.ym.edu.tw/ym2.htm and http://web.archive.org/web/20050306052457/http://www.ym.edu.tw/ but I have had trouble finding them. Wouldn't he have a profile and be working at the same university? WhisperToMe (talk) 21:31, 10 December 2013 (UTC)
The essay itself http://books.openedition.org/editionsmsh/1494 states that he was "Daiwie Fu National Tsing Hua University, Taiwan." so I wonder if past versions of that website will answer my question. I wonder if I can find him in here http://web.archive.org/web/20000620171538/http://www.nthu.edu.tw/NTHU/departs.html WhisperToMe (talk) 21:37, 10 December 2013 (UTC)
His English resume http://sts-eng.ym.edu.tw/T-DWFU.html - http://archive.is/rIULS seems to indicate it's him ("18. 1999, “On Mengxi Bitan’s [夢溪筆談] World of Marginalities and ‘South-Pointing Needles’: Fragment Translation vs. Contextual Translation” De l’Un au Multiple. De la traduction du Chinois dans les langues Europeennes, edited by Viviane Alleton and Michael Lackner, pp.175-201, Editions de la Maison de Sciences de l’Homme. 此文減縮1/3的一版本,刊於 Current Perspectives in the History of Science in East Asia, ed., by Yung Sik Kim and Francesca Bray, Seoul National University Press, 1999, pp.52-66." and "National Yang-Ming University, Taipei, TAIWAN 2007-"), but I would like to check earlier resumes on the National Tsing Hua website (the resume says his title was "Professor, History, Division of History of Science, and Division of STS. National Tsing-Hua University, Taiwan, 1993-2009.") WhisperToMe (talk) 21:47, 10 December 2013 (UTC)
On http://web.archive.org/web/20010408213007/http://www.hss.nthu.edu.tw/~hist/teacher.html (Archive) is http://web.archive.org/web/20010424173647/http://rpgs1.isa.nthu.edu.tw/faculty/dwfu/ (Archive) which leads to the proof it's him. http://web.archive.org/web/20010728102324/http://rpgs1.isa.nthu.edu.tw/faculty/dwfu/pub-a.html - http://archive.is/CJdyq
I guess I answered my own question WhisperToMe (talk) 21:54, 10 December 2013 (UTC)
- Here is the reply by Dawie Fu, 'As for your long-winded discussion/doubt (UTC, 10 Dec., 2021) on whether one of my article is really done by Daiwie Fu, I think you have already satisfied yourself in your proof, so naturally you can delete the entire section. Thank you very much.' Pw21671 (talk) 13:26, 24 May 2022 (UTC)
Cleanup
[edit]I'm going to go ahead and put this section before I add a cleanup tag. The article needs extensive copyediting and reads awkwardly. There are also some issues with tone in the lead (i.e. "looking for the next stage of actions and researches after leaving from a university life for more than 30 years") which aren't really encyclopedic. The sections that specifically need work the most are "A brief books list of academic works and social criticisms" and "Selected research works". Lastly, the number of lists. Almost everything is written in list format, pointing to all kinds of links, and as seen by the previous tag some don't even point towards the correct place. Cheers, -- • Apollo468• 01:27, 27 December 2021 (UTC)
- You've already mentioned that, so I just need to copy my summary.
- Most of this page only displays articles, papers or other works of Daiwie Fu. There are many names of people with unknown meaning in ==Influenced==. What needs to be written in ==Influencing== is not explained.02:12, 13 March 2022 Rastinition (talk) 02:16, 13 March 2022 (UTC)
- Dawie Fu has written a letter to reply to these questions as follows.
- Dear friends who had helped to revise and improve the wiki “Daiwie Fu” entry,
- First I would like to thank you for all you have done for improving the style and format of this entry, many of them with which me and pw21671 simply were not familiar. And I do wish to respect the style, format and tradition of Wikipedia and thank you for your advices.
- However, as an academic and public intellectual in East Asian Taiwan, I also like to express my thoughts concerning wiki and what are the things I consider important that are needed to post on to my entry in wiki. English wiki and its rich information are very important for academic people in Taiwan for teaching, writing and doing research. We’re the first to admit. Moreover, English itself is important not only for Euro-Americans, but also for East Asian intellectuals (Taiwanese, Japanese, Koreans, Chinese, Singaporeans, etc.,.) for crossing-national-boundaries communications. So for areas of social activities and academic studies, what we had posted in wiki “Daiwie Fu” would be important for information and communication with our Euro-American academics, graduate students and intellectuals, but also for our East Asian counterparts. In short, our original information did NOT contain, as one friend/editor wrote, “excessive amount of intricate details that may interest only a particular audience (comments in 22/March).” In fact, many more audiences could be interested in reading wiki Daiwie Fu’s entry: graduate students, professors, intellectuals, and social activists in fields of philosophy of science, (Chinese) history of science, (East Asian) STS, gender and science and medicine, and (East Asian) social criticisms. Due to the fact I’m a senior citizen and my academic and social interests in my time are wider in comparison with others, and the scope and amount of my academic and social writings are perhaps larger than average, naturally as an East Asian Taiwanese my selected research works would have more fields and items than average. Of course my past academic achievements cannot match many famous Euro-American intellectuals, but as an East Asian intellectual, I would need to stand straight up and not to feel subordinated to our Euro-American friends, who might also be open-minded Euro-American intellectuals.
- What we post this time to the wiki entry of Daiwie Fu is, based on what we saw in this entry before 2022/5/20, to add some important materials (deleted earlier) and also to improve and supplement a bit details useful for readers. No substantial changes have been made to your earlier improvements. And we also plan to remove your messages on the template, as we have done most of your suggestions.
- Finally, a wiki friend (UTC, 13/Mar.) had expressed puzzles on what we listed as “influenced”(with quite a few names) and “influencing.” But aren’t they usually contained in a right-hand side box for a person’s wiki entry, showing his or her intellectual genealogy by listing who had influenced that person? On the other hand, I didn’t list any name in the “influencing” category, due to my modesty, and may be later people can fill them out by themselves. But if that style seems strange to you, we can discuss it more.
- Daiwie Fu, 2022/5/22 from Taiwan. Pw21671 (talk) 13:30, 24 May 2022 (UTC)
