Move to "Daimler V8 engine"?

[edit]

Proposal submitted to establish consensus for or against. As per guidelines, consensus against, or failure to establish consensus, will result in the defeat of the proposal.

Proposal:

WHEREAS Daimler may have had earlier 2.5 litre engines, or earlier 4.5 litre engines, or both, than Turner's V8s,

AND WHEREAS Daimler is not likely to have made other V8 automobile engines before Turner's V8s (please correct me if I am wrong on this),

AND WHEREAS V8 engines used in Daimler automobiles after production of Turner's V8s ended would be Ford-era Jaguar V8s and not "Daimler V8s",

AND WHEREAS the term "Daimler V8 engine" is a more concise and more precise term for the subject(s) of the article,

BE IT RESOLVED THAT the subject of the article would be better described as "Daimler V8 engine" than as "Daimler 2.5 & 4.5 litre",

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED THAT the article should be renamed "Daimler V8 engine".

Support. A very clearly presented case.  Mr.choppers | ✎  16:22, 16 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]
I would suggest "Daimler V8 engines" (plural) would be more appropriate - although the two engines were broadly similar, I doubt if they had any common parts RGCorris (talk) 09:29, 22 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Support. No objection. I was new to Wikipedia when I started that so the article naming is not concise.Seasalt (talk) 07:58, 25 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Apart from the cylinder bore, is there any difference between the engine blocks of the 2.5 and the 4.5? I know they'd have different crankshafts for the different strokes, and probably different connecting rods as well, but were there any differences between the block castings? Based on what was in the article, I thought they were based on the same basic block, in a manner similar to the Chevrolet small-block engine. What is the purpose of the section "Edward Turner"?

[edit]

Why is there a mini-biography of Edward Turner in the article? What purpose does it serve the article on Daimler 2.5 & 4.5 litre V8 engines? Sincerely, SamBlob (talk) 20:55, 10 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Requested move

Daimler 2.5 & 4.5 litreDaimler V8 engines – Reasons for request given in Talk:Daimler 2.5 & 4.5 litre#Move to "Daimler V8 engine"?, as seen two sections above this one. Sincerely, SamBlob (talk) 20:23, 21 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Looks good, it's more natural. Wikipedia:Article titles has more info. Penyulap 11:49, 22 Jul 2012 (UTC)

Interchangeable ?

[edit]

An anonymous poster has just amended the article to state that the one engine cannot be bolted in place of the other. As I know there is at least one SP250 (in New Zealand) with a 4.5 engine this is not strictly accurate, although I assume there would probably be a need for modifications to the mountings etc rather than a straight swop. Can anyone clear this point up authoritatively ? RGCorris (talk) 13:55, 7 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]
