Honorific in picture caption
[edit]Not sure why this is controversial, but there is an honorific in one of the picture captions that appears to violate WP:HONORIFICS. One of the pictures is labeled as "Lanchester grilled drophead coupé for H H the Maharajah Jam Sahib of Nawanagar." Per the Manual of Style guideline: In general, honorific prefixes – styles and honorifics in front of a name – in Wikipedia's own voice should not be included, but may be discussed in the article. In particular, this applies to... styles and honorifics related to royalty, clergy, and sainthoods, such as His Holiness, The Reverend, Her Majesty, and The Venerable." The "H H", for "His Highness", fits within this guideline and does not appear to meet any of the exceptions for inclusion. I have removed this, was reverted, removed once more with a pointer to the policy, and was reverted again with the statement that "this case not in general." I inquired with the reverting editor as to their reasoning and they did not wish to discuss, so I am posting my rationale here. PohranicniStraze (talk) 05:31, 5 September 2018 (UTC)
- Hello, I wouldn't call this an official third opinion, as there is only one participant in the discussion and sufficient discussion has not taken place, but I will give you the feedback you are requesting: yes, it is a violation of WP:HON. By "discussed in article", it means an explanation about the usage of an honorific in a specific culture/context in the body of a relevant article. †Basilosauridae❯❯❯Talk 06:18, 5 September 2018 (UTC)
