Excellent start

[edit]

Excellent start. There is a typo of some kind in the History section I can't figure out: "the 'broken clans', recorded on Coll in 1587, would have likely dwelt in in the more areas on the island". Ben MacDui 08:46, 19 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I re-worded things a bit.--Brianann MacAmhlaidh (talk) 10:55, 19 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Which 'Hector Maclean of Coll'?

[edit]

According to the ref, the laird of Coll in 1587 was Hector Maclean of Coll. There seems to have been two Hector lairds (father and son) who lived around this time. Our wiki articles on these two don't actually have dates, so i'm not sure which one to link to. Maybe in time someone can clear this up.--Brianann MacAmhlaidh (talk) 10:20, 22 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]

From what I am seeing here in Wiki, father "(flourished 1560)" and son "(flourished circa 1590-1600)" 'My guess is that Hector Maclean, 4th Laird of Coll is our man, but I cannot be certain. This guess is reinforced by the following: "In 1561 a feud broke out between the families of Duart and Coll on account of the former insisting on the latter following him in all his private quarrels, like the other gentlemen of the clan. Coll declined on account that he held his lands direct from the crown. The Coll family was brought to the very brink of ruin." Still, there is not enough to allow me to choose decisively.
