Category: LGBT Presbyterians

[edit]

Anonymous contributor 71.183.254.113 added to the article the Category "LGBT Presbyterians". I did a quick look to see if I could find anything to support Cynthia Bolbach's inclusion in that group, and found nothing. It is not in her own biographical information, and there is no mention of it in any article at Layman.org, who surely would make a big thing of it. Therefore, I removed it. Snardiff added it back in, saying in the commment that there was such support. I still see no evidence that it is true and I also note that the category page does not exist. While she is clearly supportive of LGBT inclusion, if she herself has not made a point of identifying herself as in the LGBT category, I don't see how it is relevant or germain to the article. If I don't see any support for retaining it, I will remove it in a few days. Sterrettc (talk) 23:23, 21 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]

You're correct to remove the category. Wikipedia's policy on categorising biographies of living persons is quite clear: "Categories regarding religious beliefs or sexual orientation should not be used unless the subject has publicly self-identified with the belief or orientation in question, and the subject's beliefs or sexual orientation are relevant to their notable activities or public life, according to reliable published sources" (emphasis mine). It is up to those adding the category to justify its inclusion, otherwise it should be left out. --88.109.60.234 (talk) 05:42, 20 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]
