Name

[edit]

Should it be agreed to change the article name to Xaver, please bear in mind this name was also given by the FUB to Cyclone Berit in 2011. I think perhaps given that this time more than one of the Nordic nation's met offices have named this storm, and also that the storm is forecast to impact Germany (unlike others which have gone by their Nordic given name), the German name might be the most neutral option. I guess it will depend on the impacted regions, unless a notable, unified, English language name emerges. The Danish name does though appear to have come about through direct political/government intervention, which may or may not give it additional validity.Lacunae (talk) 00:53, 5 December 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Possibly. The UK Met Office hasn't given it an English name and the BBC haven't given it a name either. The only concern I have is that Cyclone Xaver already links to Cyclone Berit so I think that maybe it might be an idea to keep Bodil for the moment as it is a unique name for it until an English name becomes brought to the fore. But I don't mind either way The C of E God Save the Queen! (talk) 11:01, 5 December 2013 (UTC)[reply]

The only name in English which came up was North Sea flood of 2013, which I've proposed be merged into this article (see below). Otherwise few mentions of Bodil in English language media (http://wattsupwiththat.com/2013/12/07/the-bogosity-of-winter-storm-bodil/) but more of Xaver (Guardian, http://www.theguardian.com/world/gallery/2013/dec/06/storm-xaver-northern-europe-in-pictures BBC, http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-europe-25243460 EUMETSAT, http://www.eumetsat.int/website/home/Images/ImageLibrary/DAT_2087062.html and the Insurance industry http://www.insurancetimes.co.uk/air-xaver-claims-will-be-lower-than-october-storms/1406201.article http://www.rms.com/Catastrophe/Catupdates/CatSummary?event_id=4022.Lacunae (talk) 19:18, 17 December 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Merger proposal

[edit]

Propose merge North Sea flood of 2013 into Cyclone Xaver, I think keeping the flood information on the storm page gives greater context and allows comparison of sea states on west and east coast of the UK.Lacunae (talk) 18:56, 17 December 2013 (UTC)[reply]
