Urgent, people!
We need to talk. I am new to Wikipedia, but stumbled across this article in a related search. I am concerned that the article as written has left out some important information and makes some inaccurate statements about the origins and definitions of the term "Customer Engagement." While the author writes that "the term ‘Customer Engagement’ (CE) has not been traced to a single source. No book has been published on CE..." an early definition and discussion of the concept (and ways to measure it) were offered in an article in the Gallup Management Journal in June 2001 (see "Constant Customer" at http://gmj.gallup.com/content/745/2/The-Constant-Customer.aspx). Since 2001, Gallup has published numerous on-line articles and two books which have addressed CE in considerable detail (see McEwen, W.J. (2005). Married to the brand: Why consumers bond wit some brands for life. New York: Gallup Press, and Coffman, C., & Gonzalez-Molina, G. (2002). Follow this path: How the world's great organizations drive growth by unleashing human potential. New York: Warner Business.). Beyond Gallup’s work on the CE construct, however, it appears the term “customer engagement” has come into more common usage as a new, different, and generic way to describe a variety of traditional customer satisfaction measurement approaches. Customer Engagement is a very specific conceptual formulation and measurement tool. While it is clear that there are varying perspectives on the customer engagement construct, this information should be included in any article discussing CE. Hut6 16:55, 17 August 2007 (UTC)
