Sculpture

[edit]

This page is really lacking a section on sculpture and also architecture. I will try and start something off, but if anyone can help out please do as I'm no expert.--Bwmodular 11:49, 26 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Well I added a section on Sculpture, but it could really do with some more work. Also we need a section on Indonesian Architecture.--Bwmodular 15:35, 2 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Austin Howard

[edit]

I removed a reference in the poetry section to a pantun poet, the 'child genious' (sic) Austin Howard. This seems a most unlikely name for a celebrated indonesian poet, and the only other references I can find to him are clearly copied from this page (or this page has been copied from them), apart from one other reference on a site about dating Indonesian women (www.shaadibliss.com/indonesia/index.html). If I'm wrong in my assumption, please let me know! --Bwmodular 09:02, 8 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

American vs British

[edit]

So, umm, are we using American or British English for spelling? As it is EXTREMELY important. Cheers -- Imoeng 11:45, 27 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I don't have any comments of preference, but how important is it? — Indon (reply) — 10:00, 28 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Perhaps Imoeng would like to clarify how and why it is important? SatuSuro 10:01, 28 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]
That question style is pretty strange. It is important because we need to be consistent on what style we are using. Sepa has answered on WP:INA for the same question. Imoeng 11:52, 28 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Ok, so consistency is required within any one article, that's the answer?SatuSuro 12:29, 28 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, that is the answer. Imoeng 13:45, 28 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Tempeh vs Tempe

[edit]

The cuisine section talks about tempe with a link to the article on tempeh. I've never seen it spelled without the 'h', but is this the correct spelling? --Bwmodular 08:33, 29 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

tempeh SatuSuro 11:49, 29 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Nahh, it is tempe in Indonesian, but on Wikipedia, the existing article is tempeh. Imoeng 14:07, 1 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Okey-dokey - I'll change the article back again. In the UK it's always spelled with the 'h' - is that the malay spelling or...? --Bwmodular 14:16, 1 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Citation needed - SEA Games

[edit]

There's a 'citation needed' tag against the reference to Indonesia's performance in the SEA games. I pulled the figures from the medals tables on the English Wikipedia tables on the games. How do I reference that in the article?--Bwmodular 11:57, 30 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Hanuman?

[edit]

I added the mascot of the 1997 SEA games to the Sport section. I take it that it IS Hanuman? It messes up the page formatting a little though. Maybe it should go? I like it though.--Bwmodular 12:07, 30 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Fixed the picture formatting by moving the Nasi Goreng picture in the next section--Bwmodular 12:07, 30 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Cinema

[edit]

The first sentence: The cinemas in Indonesia are organised by 21Cineplex, and are spread throughout 24 cities on the islands of Sumatra, Java, Kalimantan, Bali and Sulawesi. makes it sound as if ALL cinemas in Indonesia are run by 21Cineplex. Is this true? Or are there still some smaller independent cinemas? Should this be changed to something like: 'The majority of cinemas..' or 'The largest chain of cinemas in Indonesia is ...' I remember plenty of small independent cinemas when I was there, but its been a while :-( --Bwmodular 12:57, 31 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I don't know who edited that, but I agree with you. Majorities of cinemas run by 21, but they are not the only one. So I think that phrase should be changed. — Indon (reply) — 13:42, 31 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]
PT Subentra/21 Cineplex have a monopoly on western/hollywood movies distribution. They strangle other cinemas to death. Indian/Chinese movies are show in small, old cinemas for low income class. Several cinemas on this class do not have any roof ("Gerimis Bubar") or portable cinemas ("bioskop keliling"). On November 2006, "Blitz", a new competitor of 21 Cineplex plan to open digital cinemas in major cities in Indonesia. http://www.jiffest.org/index.cfm?fuseaction=jiffest.news&ver=indonesia&id=306&Tick=65568578

a note about references

[edit]

For references, random web pages that assert something are not useful. We need to find authoritative sources, not tertiary sources that are just as unverified as an assertion in this article would be. -- Danny Yee 01:07, 19 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Digital TV and Radio

[edit]

There are several digital TV and Radio stations in Indonesia. Why this list/article is removed? Do you want the readers to believe that Indonesia is a backward country and do not use advanced technology? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 210.210.145.10 (talkcontribs)

Please add material about technology aspects to Media of Indonesia —Preceding unsigned comment added by 134.148.5.104 (talkcontribs)
I'm not sure if I deleted, but Wikipedia is not a directory listing commercial sites. — Indon (reply) — 07:50, 24 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Commercial -> DVB-T, DVB-S, DVB-H are TECHNICAL standards of Digital TV transmission. DAB, HD-RADIO are technical standards of Digital Radio transmission. This is an important improvement in the history of TV and Radio transmission in Indonesia. The changes is comparable to changes from Black & White TV to Color TV or AM radio to FM radio. I DO NOT MENTION ANY NAME or COMPANY.—Preceding unsigned comment added by 210.210.145.7 (talkcontribs)
Why can't you sign your name - you make many edits and comments under a range of similar anon IPs. unsigned comments, particularly by anon IP editors are really annoying. (as is adding vast new sections to articles - particularly history articles - with no references or inline citations. how does anyone know your additions are credible?)--Merbabu 22:41, 25 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

First Commercials on TV

[edit]

I've removed "This marks the first showing of TV commercials in Indonesia.[citation needed]", because RCTI is not the first one to air commercials. I remember when I was young, the older generation told me about something called "Siaran Niaga" on TVRI, which commercials were aired daily in a special slot of time(so, they weren't "commercial breaks" as we know nowadays). But somehow it ceased to exist in the TVRI of my time.

I'm sure most of us who were born in the 80's (like me) or after wouldn't know of it. But an older member of my family even sang to me her favorite jingle of that time of an air-freshener product: "Sedikit Glade disini, sedikit Glade disana, menciptakan suasana, bunga-bunga dimana-mana" (yeah, I remember, because I was fascinated and curious, TVRI in my time never had any commercials). And you know what? That same product features the same jingle in their current TV ad. To appeal to the memories of the older generation, maybe? I dunno. Matahari Pagi 03:40, 7 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Edits

[edit]

My edits should be self-explanatory, mostly to improve idiomatic flow and condense verbiage that didn't add meaning or that simply preened. I have linked text to draw this article into the Wikipedia mainstream. Native terms that are not English words are italicised. "Sukarno" is the international spelling. Sumatra needn't be blue-birded at every appearance. The problem with this article is a fundamental one: the character of the elements it so glibly mentions are not specifically expressed. In putting them into words that transmit some specific information, some quotations would be desirable: has no one ever written in English on Indonesian culture? One might think not, reading this article. Indonesian culture as it appears here seems to be utterly without self-criticism: is that actually so? --Wetman (talk) 16:50, 18 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Fair use rationale for Image:1997 sea games mascot.png

[edit]

Image:1997 sea games mascot.png is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in this Wikipedia article constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If there is other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on the other images used on this page. Note that any fair use images lacking such an explanation can be deleted one week after being tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.

Orphaned references in Culture of Indonesia

[edit]

I check pages listed in Category:Pages with incorrect ref formatting to try to fix reference errors. One of the things I do is look for content for orphaned references in wikilinked articles. I have found content for some of Culture of Indonesia's orphans, the problem is that I found more than one version. I can't determine which (if any) is correct for this article, so I am asking for a sentient editor to look it over and copy the correct ref content into this article.

Reference named "ReferenceA":

  • From Dayak people: Hans Peter Duerr. "Der Mythos vom Zivilisationsprozeß 4. Der erotische Leib"
  • From Indonesia: Jill Forshee, Culture and customs of Indonesia, Greenwood Publishing Group: 2006: ISBN 0-313-33339-4. 237 pp.
  • From Cinema of Indonesia: Baskett, The Attractive Empire.
  • From Islam: Mary Hawkesworth, Maurice Kogan Encyclopedia of Government and Politics: 2-volume set Routledge 2013 ISBN 9781136913327 pp. 270–271

I apologize if any of the above are effectively identical; I am just a simple computer program, so I can't determine whether minor differences are significant or not. AnomieBOT 11:10, 18 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Proposed New Subsection: Digital Preservation of Traditional Indonesian Arts

[edit]

Hello fellow editors,

I propose adding a subsection titled "Digital Preservation of Traditional Indonesian Arts" under the Traditional Performing Arts section. This subsection will:

  • Highlight how digital tools and participatory media practices are used to preserve and promote traditional arts, such as gamelan music and Balinese dance.
  • Provide examples of gamelan communities using social media and participatory projects in museums like Museum Mpu Tantular.
  • Discuss innovative applications like integrating traditional arts into animation (Si AA).

This addition will demonstrate how traditional Indonesian arts are adapting to the digital age, ensuring their sustainability and global reach.

Supporting Sources:

  • Developing a Multimodal Database of Digital Archives for Cultural Heritage Sites.
  • Media Convergence in the Samutri Andaru Laras Gamelan Community in Preserving Traditional Arts.
  • Enhancing Participatory Culture by Using New Media to Preserve Local Culture in Museum Mpu Tantular East Java.
  • Culture-Based Animation: Inserting Indonesian Local Culture in Animation Series 'Si AA'.

Feedback or suggestions are welcome! Seeisang (talk) 07:02, 14 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Proposed Expansion: Crafts Section

[edit]

Hi everyone,

I propose expanding the Crafts section to include more details on traditional Indonesian weaving techniques, such as:

  • Ikat, Songket, and Ulos: Their cultural symbolism, roles in rituals, and significance in Indonesian identity.
  • Discussion of challenges facing these traditional crafts in a modern, globalized world.
  • Examples of their incorporation into contemporary fashion and cultural branding.

This addition will enhance readers' understanding of the intricate relationships between crafts, culture, and the economy in Indonesia.

Supporting Sources:

  • Threads of Tradition: Silalahi Ulos Weaving and Cultural Significance in North Sumatra.
  • Dressing Miss World with Balinese Brocades: The Fashion Industry and Traditional Arts.
  • The Interpretation of Quality in the Sustainability of Indonesian Traditional Weaving.

Looking forward to your feedback! Seeisang (talk) 07:02, 14 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Proposed Structural Enhancements

[edit]

Hello,

To improve the readability and structure of the article, I propose:

  1. Creating clear subsections within Traditional Performing Arts and Crafts.
  2. Adding a flow from traditional forms of art and craft to their modern adaptations and preservation efforts.

This restructuring will make the article more accessible and logically organized for readers.

Feedback is appreciated! Seeisang (talk) 07:03, 14 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]
