POV

I toned down the rhetoric on the last set of edits. Your passion is commendable, but the snark is not suitable for an encyclopedia article. I don't have a particular POV on this issue, ( I don't even own a dog right now, and I've never owned one of a cropped-ear breed) there just seemed to be a need for the article so I created it. I just toned down the opinion and descriptive language a bit. Montanabw(talk) 21:46, 15 September 2011 (UTC)

Note: I restored a bit on the USA reasons for ear-cropping to provide balance. I don't personally advocate the practice, but it is so very widespread here (saw two cropped-ear Schnauzers just last week) and the show organizations so vehemently oppose its regulation, that it would be to biased to not provide the views of this group. There is no need to censor out this information; people can read both sides, review the scientific data, and figure out the situation. I think most things that were moved I did not accidentally restore in two places, but if I did, feel free to toss the more awkward form. But for the POV, See WP:SOAP if needed (smile). Natural ears

I put the bit on naturally small ears back in for a fairly simple reason: People unfamiliar with animals DO confuse these with cropped ears. American Lamancha goat breeders complain that they get ripped on by animal rights sorts for "being mean and cutting off their goat's ears" -- they find this quite frustrating. Provided some sources. Montanabw(talk) 04:48, 20 September 2011 (UTC)

That's fine, it makes sense now, but previously it didn't mention that! I've played with the wording a bit to make this even more explicit. OwainDavies (about)(talk) edited at 07:28, 20 September 2011 (UTC)
Yeah, I realized that was probably the problem, so I tried to expand to solve that little problem. I was sensitized to the issue a couple weeks ago at the state fair while talking to some LaMancha goat exhibitors. Apparently they deal with it all the time and are trying to do a lot of education on the issues. Montanabw(talk) 23:54, 20 September 2011 (UTC)

Suggest merging articles

This article is essentially a duplicate of http://wiki.riteme.site/wiki/Docking_(dog). Perhaps we can discuss the merits or keeping them separated or merging them into one article. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 66.151.103.8 (talk) 18:29, 15 February 2012 (UTC)

I think the answer is to remove cropping references at docking, rather than merge them. OwainDavies (about)(talk) edited at 18:37, 15 February 2012 (UTC)
Agreed, I spun off the article to this one because the docking one focused on tails, and the teminology is confusing to those of us that do not use the same term for both things. Montanabw(talk) 03:30, 16 February 2012 (UTC)

I totally would also suggest a merging of the Docking and Cropping articles under a better article called Pet Cosmetic Surgery. Most legislations deal with these practices in THE SAME pieces of legislation, whether it be from country or provincial/state legislatures or veterinary associations. To separate them makes research on the topic very tedious and too many references and citations end up being duplicated and not updated with the same frequency, leading to mismatches.--Tallard (talk) 23:43, 19 March 2016 (UTC)

As noted, this issue has been dead for four years and both articles expanded since then. Montanabw(talk) 05:32, 22 March 2016 (UTC)
I agree. DrChrissy (talk) 17:40, 22 March 2016 (UTC)

I do not agree with merging of the Docking and Cropping articles. It gives a false image that cropping and docking are the only surgery types which are Pet Cosmetic Surgery.
