Croc or Crook?

[edit]

This former village is not named after a shepherd's crook so much as named after a man called Croc. The Gaelic form of this would therefore be "Baile Cruic" (Croc's town). During the period that Gaelic was spoken in the area, there would have been no mutation of the initial C to indicate possession, therefore "Baile Chruic" would be an anachronistic form. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 86.185.167.169 (talk) 14:39, 10 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]
