Proposed merge of Raramuri Criollo into Criollo cattle
[edit]Can't really find any evidence that this population or breed exists. It's not in either the fifth or the sixth] edition of Mason, nor is it mentioned by Felius. Six Mexican breeds of Criollo cattle are reported to DAD-IS, but this is not among them. Justlettersandnumbers (talk) 21:47, 17 April 2020 (UTC)
Response to proposed merge of Raramuri Criollo into other Criollo cattle
[edit]De Alba Martinez characterizes Raramuri Criollo as one of 33 known biotypes in Mexico.
See book: De Alba Martinez, J., 2011. El libro de los bovinos criolloe en America. Colegio de Postgraduados. (http://blog.fundacioncolpos.org/?projects=el-libro-de-los-bovinos-criollos-de-america)
Between this and several peer reviewed articles (listed in the page), it seems like Raramuri Criollo are a well recognized biotype. In Mason they are referred to as "Criollo de Chiapas," but De Alba Martinez argues that Raramuri is a better name because it was the Tarahumara who maintained the animals from genetic incursions for centuries.
