The section on firearm deaths is almost completely unsourced, especially the claim of gun prevalence. Nine people killed in August 2007 is the support given, but this is hardly indicative of annual occurrence. Even if we extrapolate this to one year, 9 X 12 = 108 firearm deaths in Turkey annually. This hardly supports the claim, "Firearms are very common in Turkey and large numbers of people are shot each year." Especially when you compare it to countries of similar population and strict gun control. For instance, Germany averages over 200 firearm murders a year. Also, 108 firearm deaths annually equates to a firearm homicide rate of about 0.166/100,000 people using an estimated population of Turkey of 65,000,000. This is among the lowest in the world (http://www.nationmaster.com/graph/cri_gun_vio_hom_fir_hom_rat_per_100_pop-rate-per-100-000-pop). Unless someone comes forward with better stats, I'm going to rewrite this whole section.Tubbyty (talk) 19:00, 14 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]
