This article appears to have the same problem as Crime in Greater Manchester does. I could repeat my comments about that article here, but do I need to? First, I do not believe that the police are responsible for Crime in Merseyside, as implied by the lead paragraph! That cannot be correct as it would mean the police are the criminals and the criminals are the police. Citing raw crime statistics and then asserting a greater or lesser amount of crime in an area, without being specific about which crime statistics have been used is effectively original research. If one opens the June 2021 table P3 and examines the total crimes rates per 1,000 population, one will find that the figure for Merseyside is higher than that for Lancashire due to population differences. Also, the rate for Greater Manchester is higher again, while the rate for London is lower. While it is legitimate to state the crime statistics and even perform basic mathematics, one crosses the line into synthesis by comparing the statistics for different areas if the cited source does not make this comparison nor provide a methodology to do so. Also, one should probably be using victim survey statistics, as there is a dark figure of crime that is not reported to or detected by the police that can be identified using victims surveys. - Cameron Dewe (talk) 11:59, 23 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]
