[edit]Hi. I plan to rename this article to Crime drop during the 1990s to 2010s. --Sm8900 (talk) 18:00, 11 January 2019 (UTC)
Scope of the article
[edit]Hi WikiDan68, You are right in the sense that currently the article’s focus is the period since the 1990s. But several criminologists say that for understanding the phenomenon it is important having a broader perspective: In time and geographically. With this, new explanations rise. Also a link to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals #16 emerges: "Peace, Justice, and Strong Institutions“. However, I wrote the german version of the article, including these broader views: https://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kriminalitätsrückgang and I will continue extending the english version similarly. The question is the size of the steps: Probably it is better adding much more in one change for having a more "harmonic" article in all transition phases?--Pakwesi (talk) 08:10, 25 October 2019 (UTC)
- @Pakwesi: If the overall history of crime since the middle ages is important to understand the context of the current phenomenon, it can be discussed in an appropriate section (maybe "Historical context"), but to change the lede to incorporate that information shifts the focus of the article too significantly. - @WikiDan61: Ok, then I will start/continue in e.g. "Historical context". Btw: I am not an english native speaker but give my best to write decent english. Improvements of my sentences may be necessary and are very welcome, of course :-)
- @Pakwesi: I like this solution better. Thanks! Nice consensus-building! WikiDan61ChatMe!ReadMe!! 21:35, 25 October 2019 (UTC)
