"Wireless Internet Issues" section

On June 17, 2010, anonymous IP 69.171.166.49 added the "Wireless Internet Issues" section, which (after a couple of typo corrections the next day by another anonymous IP) said:

Wireless Internet Issues
Many of Cricket's customers who have bought on to their wireless broadband internet have noticed that it routinely does not run at advertised speeds. Cricket offers "unlimited" broadband internet service, yet in the fine print it's limited to 5Gb or 10Gb usage caps followed by severe bandwidth throttling that barely makes the service usable. That's on top of various times when a user is below the cap when Cricket decides to throttle bandwidth anyway, like when streaming, watching a livecast, visiting various sites like Youtube, and so on. The service can slow down to below-dial-up speeds even when a user is well below the usage cap, and Cricket customer service will admit to this throttling as them doing it "against anything detrimental to their network," which means that for any time you actually require broadband speeds, Cricket will throttle the service to prevent you from having such.

I think that some of that information is useful, but the tone, and certainly the last 22 words, are very unencyclopedic. I'm going to take a stab at improving it, by shortening it and toning down the "griping" while retaining the information about 5/10 GB usage caps and throttling. I'd welcome further improvements from other editors.

BTW, by way of disclaimer, I'm a new CricKet customer, having just switched from Sprint, and thus far I'm quite pleased. I mainly use my CricKet phone for voice and text, but I bought the Internet option, and I expect to occasionally need to "tether" my phone to my laptop computer (though I haven't done so yet). With some carriers, if you need to tether, there's the choice of either a large (e.g., $40/mo) monthly fee or the threat of an astronomical surprise bill on your next statement. But with CricKet, the worst that can happen is that they throttle your bandwidth, there's never a surprise oversize bill. I like that a lot! NCdave (talk) 00:01, 6 July 2010 (UTC)

I changed further the sections regarding Broad band coverage and general coverage. The author of the stub projected a slightly negative subjective view of these sections. I will write a section about the Joint Venture with Pocket soon and add it.72.191.207.252 (talk) 06:45, 26 September 2010 (UTC)

All of this does happen with Cricket. They throttle your bandwith severely, not just when you go over limits, but when you actually approach their advertised speeds. And while it is harmful to the company and griping on my end, this section should be put in, though heavily edited to make it more encyclopedic. Forthermore, in response to NCdave, Tethering now comes with an additional (10 dollars/month) charge. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 69.171.163.60 (talk) 00:48, 17 May 2012 (UTC)

"Violation of GPL" section

This section is technically not correct as Kyocera not Cricket would be the party required to release the source. Carries do not release source code for phones, manufactures do. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 99.12.148.43 (talk) 03:03, 4 December 2010 (UTC)

I've removed the offending section as a violation of WP:OR. Uncle Dick (talk) 20:05, 6 December 2010 (UTC)
