Cloister the stupid?
Is this really an alter ego? It's more of a one-off joke taking a misinterpretation of the English language by Frankenstein.
- Agreed. He didn't really play Cloister, he was labeled Cloister.--OPaul 17:51, 2 January 2007 (UTC)
Unprotect
Unprotect it please! It's important that it gets information added to it when it comes to light. I acknowledge that it's only to non-members, but there are fans of CC who will want to add important information but are not members of Wikipedia. Additionally, all the vandalism has only come from two IPs- and judging from the style, both used by the same person. Why do this for the sake of one silly person with a computer? -Dave
Yes, but it takes almost no effort to become a member. Further, we are dealing with a living person's biography, and one would have to err on the side of caution. One could track down this vandal through the IPs and communicate with the ISP providing them, and maybe they would take action against their client (or maybe someone is hacking through their network?), but in the meantime how much slander (or would it be libel) could be rendered against Mr. Charles until that happens? Protecting is a more secure action with this sort of issue. Empath 23:23, 2 February 2007 (UTC)
- It's libel, because of the medium used to defame CC. Slander is where you might defame CC in a public speech.
Susan Williams?
Susan Williams was the alter ego of another performance poet, Steven Wells (also known as Seething Wells). Is this an error, or did CC also use the pseudonym?Widmerpool 02:28, 5 March 2007 (UTC)
- I think it's probably an error, although it now seems to be a widespread one. For example Comedy Zone include it, but if you compare that with Classic TV hits you'll see it's pretty much word for word the same, and CTVH states the biog has come from here. There's other sites as well, but the biogs do seem to be all derived from the same source, which is here. I'm going to be bold and remove it, as it's more than likely false. Sections
The repeated attempts to add dubiously titled sections are vandalism, as they are nothing more than an attempt to give the article a tabloid look, and give undue weight to the article, and will keep being reverted. One Night In Hackney303 16:23, 21 April 2007 (UTC)
Strange comments
What on Earth is this about? "Craig Charles died at the hands of a Clubbing to Death gang." It would seem this article needs to be protected, if this sort of thing is happening regularly. 192.84.79.13 12:59, 23 April 2007 (UTC)

Spaced?
Craig charles was not in spaced... correct me if i'm wrong (which i really don't think i am), but he never appeared in that show, also spaced was shot by Channel 4 at the same time the BBC shot series VIII of red dwarf. neither the imdb, wikipedia, or my own scrutinisation of "spaced" has revealed an appearence by this actor. someone with the authority should remove that piece of information...

Extensive vandalism of page
I've just had a look at this entry (2007-08-06, 01:18 Mountain Standard Time) and would like to note that there have been extensive racist and libellous comments made on the page. Every link appears to have been vandalized, also. Someone please revert it to an earlier version. Azawalli 07:23, 6 August 2007 (UTC)
Robot Wars
Didn't Charles present this show? Didn't spot it on tv-ography. 62.6.161.178 (talk) 21:35, 20 February 2008 (UTC)
- •Yes, he sure did. See the IMDB listing for Robot Wars. AFAIK he was presenter for it's entire run, or at least from 1999-on as it lists Jeremy Clarkson as 1998. --150.226.95.18 (talk) 14:01, 17 March 2008 (UTC)

The Funk and Soul show on radio 6 is now re-named the Craig Charles Funk and Soul Show and is on from 19:00-22:00 on Saturdays, not 18:00-21:00 as detailed on the page. The BBC one above is NOT just a list of f/s shows--as of 4/2/2010 it starts with a masthead that reads "Craig Charles Funk and Soul Show". All of the content on the page is about sets done ON the show. This is from the official BBC website--it's a BBC show, what could be more authoritative than the actual BBC website, indicating the show has had Craig's name added to it again? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 75.27.232.30 (talk) 02:09, 4 April 2010 (UTC)

Your ad hominem attacks reflect poorly on you my friend. Everyone in Scotland I have discussed the issue with is well aware of Charles's attempts to deny hosting The Funky Bunker at a standup gig. I didn't edit it into the article, so what is your problem? You must surf the internet in an uncontrollable rage and lash out at people with whom you arbitrarily disagree. Sad, IMO. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 217.42.112.222 (talk) 18:15, 17 February 2009 (UTC)

Parents
This article states that his father was black and his mother was Irish. Can it be changed to 'his father was (insert correct country of ethnic origin here) and his mother was Irish' OR 'his father was black and his mother was white'. Otherwise it seems like lumping all 'black' people/cultures/nations together, in direct contrast to the detail of nationality given on the (presumably) white mother's heritage. --- —Preceding unsigned comment added by 192.43.227.18 (talk) 03:28, 28 June 2010 (UTC)

Cyberzone
We have followed Craig's career for years and I looked him when trying to remember the name of the game show he used to be in - looking up Cyberzone I found this link:

Maybe this could be put in the Wikipedia article?
It's a pity there's not more about Craig's performances on Saturday Night Live. We used to enjoy this launch pad for several popular entertainers, some good some bad depending on your viewpoint. What I try to explain to my kids is that the cabbie in Corrie was a 'right on' political stand up which they can't quite believe. It's all part of my conspiracy of how some people pretend to be right on to get a start only to compromise their apparent street cred and go mainstream. Who would have thought this political Brummie poet would end up on the nation's favourite soap? Oh well we love him just the same. 81.86.144.210 19:38, 5 September 2007 (UTC)

Tranmere Rovers
I can't find a reliable source for Charles having played for Tranmere Rovers - it's all over the internet but only sites that are Wiki mirrors are have obviously lifted their information from here. I would have gone ahead and removed it but it seems to have been in the article a long time so I'm a bit wary. At very least a source needs to be added and a distinction needs to be made if he was actualy professional or just a youth team player. For now I'll tag it for citation but one is needed. He also hosted a program called "Pub guide to the Universe", or something similar. Anyone got anymore information?
- It was called 'Amazing Space: The Pub Guide to the Universe' and was set in the Amazing Space Pub. It might have been on National Geographic in 2001. ClareGC (talk) 21:51, 13 March 2012 (UTC)
Liverpool Echo
It has been stated by Liverpool's newspaper, the Liverpool Echo, that Craig has been the victim of a media vendetta, due in part to the campaign of the Mirror
Anyone got a source for this? Personally, I happen to agree with it - but I find it strange that the Echo would say something like that about the Mirror, simply because they're owned by the same company! Similarly, a citation for the Hilary Kingsley quote, and the Rob/Doug response to it (on the "Six of the Best" video boxset, I believe), would be useful. Seb Patrick 16:27, 27 June 2006 (UTC)

Rape allegation
In the section Rape allegation we read 'During this time, BBC Two were showing repeats of every Red Dwarf episode, and most episodes were edited as the BBC weren't keen to show Charles engaged in any sexual activity.' That implies that most episodes of Red Dwarf showed Charles engaged in sexual activity. Really? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 213.122.10.146 (talk) 16:13, 12 January 2012 (UTC)
- Quite a few episodes have some comedy sexual references, but I get your point. The statement doesn't seem relevant to the encyclopedia article to me, and it isn't referenced. I'll take it out if noone puts forward a reason to keep it. ClareGC (talk) 00:45, 27 February 2012 (UTC) Sentence removed. Also, the direct quote in this section needs to be (re)referenced as the link is broken. ClareGC (talk) 21:51, 13 March 2012 (UTC)

Filmography - trim needed
The filmography is really bloated. Having every instance on him being interviewed or on a game show is hardly necessary and if anything dilutes the good stuff he's done. I'll try to return for a serious cull at some point. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 87.115.209.74 (talk) 22:58, 1 November 2015 (UTC)

WikiProjects
Since Craig Charles has acted in both Red Dwarf and Coronation Street, in addition to the above WikiProjects, would this article be of interest to WikiProject Red Dwarf and WikiProject Coronation Street? Vorbee (talk) 17:28, 6 July 2019 (UTC)
Grammar
This article, after saying that Craig Charles played David Lister in the science fiction sitcom "Red Dwarf" and Lloyd Mullaney, then says "as a soul and funk D.J. on BBC Radio 6 Music". This does not make grammatical sense - would it not be better to re-store to the article to what is used to say, and have "He is best known as..." at the start of the article? Vorbee (talk) 06:25, 4 August 2019 (UTC)
Date of birth
This source in The Independent says "Craig Charles was born in Liverpool in 1964." A brief search at FreeBMD reveals his birth was likely to have been this one in 3rd quarter, mother's name MeKeown. This is consistent with a date of 11 July 1964. Here's a tweet, from Charles himself, which confirms it. Martinevans123 (talk) 18:33, 4 February 2022 (UTC)

False allegations
Two one-off IP editors have removed reliable sources characterising the 1990s charges against Charles as false allegations. There is no indication that the two IPs are related, despite their oddly centred interest in a 25-year-old acquittal. Opening up a section here for anyone to discuss removing the sources again. Unknown Temptation (talk) 15:25, 15 December 2021 (UTC)
- Just picking this up again. Of the two sources provided, the BBC doesn't describe the allegations as false, it simply notes that he was acquitted. The Telegraph says very briefly and without further context that he was 'wrongly accused'. I do not feel this meets the standard we need to refer to the allegations against Charles as being false allegations. He was of course acquitted, as the article states, but there is quite a big difference between an acquittal and a false or wrongful allegation. To my mind, we should be cautious about saying people have made false allegations, and the sources available don't really support that as a factual statement rather than as a statement of Charles's view of the matter. The Land (talk) 19:36, 21 March 2023 (UTC)
