what references are allowed...? I posted one reference for a Resume and Europass CV writing and it was removed quickly?
- GetResume.com: Resume and Europass CV writing.—The preceding unsigned comment was added by Salexe (talk • contribs).
- Generally, references to sites that intend to promote something are not allowed. So the link you added has been removed (by me.) I also removed the webtech-101.com link for the same reason. Veinor (talk to me) 21:57, 5 March 2007 (UTC)
- GetResume.com is only free multilingual resume and europass cv builder. Visitors can create and download in PDF file for free...I think it is well worthed online tool for job seekers but I can not go over your decision, so it's up to you if you want to allow it or not
- Whilst multilingual resources are valuable, this is an English Wikipedia page, and as such I don't think there's a problem with focusing on English language sites. It might be good to have more emphasis on non-American standards and websites, though. — TheJames 14:15, 10 September 2007 (UTC)
Link Approval
I would like to add a link to interactive-resume.com/cover-letter.php
I feel this is a helpful addition as it shows the structure of a cover letter which is useful for those that don't know how to write one, it is a free service. The site also has other helpful information in the form or collected articles.
While this site does sell resumes it is not "in your face". —Preceding unsigned comment added by 142.179.166.16 (talk) 16:52, August 30, 2007 (UTC)
- I do not believe our readers are well served by us adding this link. We already have a link to example cover letters from a site with a good provenance. More than one is just clutter. Also the only thing that is really known about this site is that it is part of a ring of connected external link that have been spammed to Wikipedia by this IP WikiProject Spam report (permanent link[1]). We are not a platform for promoting external websites. -- SiobhanHansa 20:26, 30 August 2007 (UTC)
I strongly disagree interactive-resume.com/cover-letter.php is an interactive solution for creating cover letters. Those other sites don't seem to let you do anything but copy/paste what they provide. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 68.150.146.193 (talk) 20:50, August 30, 2007 (UTC)
Lemma: change to "Letter of Motivation"
From my experience, 95% of job-seekers use the "cover letter" to re-hash their resume, starting a lot of sentences with "I ...", providing no additional information over the resume. These letters are a turn-off, but not always an indication of an incapable candidate. As the "Other uses" section indicates, "cover letter" could mean many things, even if in the US it is commonly used for the letter of motivation sent with a resume. The term "cover letter" does not point out the key opportunity of this document: to express one's excitement about the specific employer and position. Can we change the Lemma to "Letter of Motivation" and either have "Cover Letter" forward to it or make "Cover Letter" a disambiguation page?

Oh my God how is that the opening sentence to this article? I wanted to punch my computer right in the monitor after that. Seriously, guys, change that. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 173.171.239.69 (talk) 20:01, 13 September 2010 (UTC)
