Syd Barrett?

[edit]

What is the source that Syd Barrett appeared on this track? Carolus 01:44, 2 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

It is incorrect. The 5 man Floyd was never recorded. I shall correct the article accordingly Martyn Smith 22:50, 17 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Yes it was. According to the book Another Brick in the Wall: The Stories Behind Every Pink Floyd Song, Syd does indeed appear on this track, "Set The Controls", "Remember A Day" and of course "Jugband Blues". It also mentions on the Echoes album that Syd is credited for guitars on Set the Controls. Doc Strange 16:10, 13 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Doc, That particular book you cite is woefully inaccurate on many counts. However, you're right about the Echoes credits. And it does sound like Syd's guitar style on "Corporal Clegg", at any rate. As for Martyn's comments, it's not necessarily a question of the "five-man Floyd" being recorded, but rather a case of a particular recording being started when Syd was still active, but finished later with Gilmour.--63.25.99.176 (talk) 15:34, 18 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Seeing that you have a source saying that Syd Barrett does sing on this track, you should find a source that says he does not if you are not going to include his participation on the main page. However, I will find a second source that confirms Barrett's vocals on this track. It certainly sounds a heck of a lot like him during certain parts, so I am confident I will find this and then update the article accordingly. Found it! Nicolas Schaffner's A Saucerful of Secrets, page 132. Syd is cited for vocals. Honestly, you can hear his voice plain as day on this track. Accipio Mitis Frux (talk) 13:32, 23 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Is that really Nick Mason singing the rhyming couplets in this song? Sounds a lot like Waters....Martyn Smith 09:00, 19 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Barrett wasn't featured I was self-taught and my only group was Pink Floyd. I was not featured on 'Corporal Clegg' but did play on another track written by Richard Wright. I forget the title but it had a steel guitar in the background. There have been complications regarding the LP but it is now almost finished and should be issued by EMI in a few months. I now spend most of my time writing. - Syd Barrett 1968 83.253.167.142 (talk) 17:55, 18 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I agree. Or, at least, it sounds as much like Waters as the singing on "Take Up Thy Stethoscope and Walk" does.--63.25.99.176 (talk) 15:34, 18 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Is this song an (humorous) attempt to mock The Beatles? It sounds a lot like a Beatles song...

Yeah, it sounds a lot like Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band --69.79.195.135 05:00, 25 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Funny, I would have said it sounds like Hendrix. --63.25.99.176 (talk) 15:34, 18 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]
If I remember correctly, Pink Floyd was there when The Beatles were recording Sgt. Pepper's. Maybe it gave Roger some inspiration.Arno Sluismans (talk) 19:43, 26 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Who played the kazoo in this song?70.106.125.241 (talk) 00:57, 1 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I thought it was Nick, but this article says David. I think some article or book spoke of "Mason's kazoo" on Corporal Clegg. Not sure though. Arno Sluismans (talk) 21:38, 4 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]

It sounds like Syd Barrett singing the lines "umbrella in the rain" and "received his medal in a dream."Hucklebuck10 (talk) 20:04, 10 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Clegg?

[edit]

Could this song be named after Thaddeus von Clegg as he invented the kazoo and a kazoo is featured. 83.255.70.249 (talk) 18:23, 13 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]

This is totally original research

[edit]

But the song is written, for the most part, in iambic trimeter. Cool, right? harej 18:51, 24 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Syd Barrett Lyrics

[edit]

Who sings the "Dear, oh dear, Are they really sad for me? Dear, oh dear, Will they really laugh at me?" lyrics? That's Syd Barrett, correct? It sounds like his voice. As a result, he performed on this song.

The "Dear, oh dear" part is sung by David Gilmour.Hucklebuck10 (talk) 19:58, 10 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]

"citation needed", Roger Waters interview with MOJO magazine

[edit]

I remember reading that interview and remember (not perfectly!) that Roger Waters did indeed say something of that nature. I have every issue of MOJO since 2000 and could no doubt trace that particular interview. Unfortunately, due to MOJO's horrendous omission of any decent index, I am not about to search through a few hundred MOJOs looking for it, so the citation will have to wait... 79.69.2.35 (talk) 16:18, 28 September 2018 (UTC)[reply]
