Stechlin ciscoCoregonus fontanae — Most common name: three (unambigous) common names exist: detailed discussion below. —innotata (TalkContribs) 19:28, 29 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Parentheses altered. —innotata (TalkContribs) 20:35, 29 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]
This was the original name of this page, but I moved it to "Stechlin cisco" after finding it used at the IUCN Red List (ordinarily only FishBase names are used on Wikipedia). While none of the common names for this species refer to any other species, it looks like Stechlin cisco is used less commonly then Fontane or Fontane's cisco, and the scientific name is most commonly used, with two out of two references in the media using the name. —innotata (TalkContribs) 19:28, 29 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Um, I gather Coregonus fontanae is the most prevalent name and Stechlin cisco is the least prevalent vernacular name. Is that correct? --Una Smith (talk) 00:04, 6 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Stechlin cisco is one of the two most common English vernaculars, more or less, and is used by the IUCN. Fontane cisco is used maybe as frequently, maybe more, and Fontane's once or twice. —innotata (TalkContribs) 00:19, 6 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]
