[edit]Is this Cooking Channel a rebrand of or a replacement for SexTV: The Channel? User:Northwest stated in their edit summary here that the channel is a rebrand, but the article states in the "As Cooking Channel" section that W Movies would be replaced by a Canadian version of Cooking Channel
, citing this source, which states Cooking Channel will take the place of W Movies on the dial in Canada. That channel, which was rebranded from SexTV: The channel in 2010, reported ...
. The source also states Cooking Channel will launch on Dec. 12.
The source seems to indicate that W Movies was a rebrand of SexTV, but the Cooking Channel is a true replacement of the channel. I'm inclined to think the difference is more than just semantics—a "replacement" implies that the entire theme of the channel is changing, whereas a "rebrand" implies that the content of the channel is not radically changing, just the name. In this case, it seems more like a replacement to me—I can't see how turning a channel about sexuality into a channel about cooking could be seen as a "rebrand". If it is a replacement, I would be inclined to move this page back to W Movies and create a whole new article for Cooking Channel (Canada) from scratch. Mz7 (talk) 05:04, 22 December 2016 (UTC)
- The content and theme of SexTV and W Movies were different too. The reason that (W Movies) was considered a rebrand and not a replacement at that time was the fact that both channels used the same broadcast license. This source from W Network/Corus Entertainment states
W Movies is rebranding to Cooking Channel Canada
. Northwest (talk) 09:57, 22 December 2016 (UTC)- That's interesting. Even still, wouldn't it be better if we created separate pages about SexTV, W Movies, and Cooking Channel? It's a bit jarring to see information about SexTV in the article about Cooking Channel. Mz7 (talk) 02:53, 23 December 2016 (UTC)
- I understand where you're coming from, but it would be inconsistent with other Canadian specialty channels that have had rebrands as they haven't been split when one occurred. Even if a split were to occur I don't see why all references to SexTV should be removed from a Cooking Channel article just because it could come across as offensive. It's part of the history of a channel that was licensed as Relationship Television, omitting this information would compromise the integrity of the article. Perhaps it can be downplayed. Maybe model the history section after H2 (Canada)'s by removing a subsection for each branding. Northwest (talk) 09:50, 23 December 2016 (UTC)
