Alleged trivial information
[edit]Response to Oakshade (talk | contribs):
I have some difficulty in figuring out why the exceedingly rare fact -- that this fatal accident happened as the highly experienced captain was conducting his last retirement flight -- constitutes "trivial content" and has a "non-encyclopedic tone." It seems to me the rarity of this kind of fact in the history of airliner accidents, is what makes it highly notable and thus should be in the lead of the article.
I will appreciate some response which can explain to me how you go about judging such an entry as "trivial" and having a "non-encyclopedic tone." Are you basing that judgment upon some objective Wiki policy? Is there a Wiki policy page that would explain why it should be judged trivial and non-encyclopedic? Or, does it amount to little more than your own arbitrary judgment? EditorASC (talk) 16:50, 8 July 2015 (UTC)
- The content about it being last flight of the captain was not removed. It was just moved the bottom of the section as it shouldn't be in the lede of the description as to what happened to the aircraft. As for the "Continental flight 603 was to be the last (retirement) flight of Captain Eugene Hersche, but it never got off the ground." line, I removed the "but it never got off the ground" bit. While that has a nice dramatic flair to it, it's not encyclopedic in tone. See WP:FORMAL.--Oakshade (talk) 02:12, 9 July 2015 (UTC)
- The fact that it was his last last flight is trivial and as far as I can see not relevant to the accident so probably can be removed. MilborneOne (talk) 11:50, 9 July 2015 (UTC)
- I don't mind its presence as it is sourced. I just don't think it belongs at the beginning and, like anything here, should be written in encyclopedic tone. --Oakshade (talk) 14:25, 9 July 2015 (UTC)
