As the Turkish Military eventually/gradually/maybe grudgingly adapts to the modern state of affairs, the number of career officials are growing, with the intent of having a better educated and more elite force. However, the current number of these professionals are unknown to this wikipedian. Justin Case 04:26, 6 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

A photograph is advised as per wikipedia protocol, but I feel this is unnecessary. If we were talking about Turkish Armed Forces flags, coats of arms, and photographs of parades etc would be appropriate - but conscription? Justin Case 04:29, 6 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Draft evaders

[edit]

I really would like to see a strong reference for the 40.000 draft evaders in Turkey. I had gone through that number for a reserach in the past and I'm pretty certain it was way less than that. Near a few thousands if I remember correctly... —Preceding unsigned comment added by 88.254.131.29 (talk) 20:37, 28 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Draft evader section is now showing 400,000 evaders at the moment. This has become rather ridicilous. I think there is a language problem, writer of the section probably listed the number of draft waiting citizens. I'm removing this unsourced and unbelievable section. Only 700,000 people are drafted every year, it is not practically possible for such population of evaders to exist. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 88.227.119.75 (talk) 22:54, 17 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Number of draft evaders is more than 400,000 (I wish I could find the link to the official statement, given in answer to a request by a member of the parliament). The number grows because it accumulates over the years; it is not a "per year" number. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 85.103.8.219 (talk) 10:36, 5 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Re draft evaders

[edit]

See document http://www.unhcr.org/refworld/pdfid/467010bd2.pdf page 29 of 68 for an estimate of draft evaders of around 350,000. "An estimate which is often heard is of around 350 000." Also found in the daily newspaper, "Radikal", 18 May 2000. 58.96.94.221 (talk) 05:11, 22 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]
