"2009 census"
[edit]Wait, what? Does someone mean 2000 Census? ~GMH talk to me 02:50, 17 April 2009 (UTC)
Gourd lady
[edit]I took out the "National Gourd Lady" under notable people. The listing has nothing to show that the person is really notable. There is no article for her. An anonymous IP put her back in under the edit summary of "fixing grammer". Since this edit didn't add anything for notability and the user misspelled grammar, I reverted it. Doesn't really belong. Possibly just a nonconstructive edit by the IP. Just wanted to put something here in case the IP or anyone else has any evidence of notability or questions me taking it out. Thank you. -- JoannaSerah (talk) 04:49, 12 February 2012 (UTC)
Major businesses?
[edit]Unless someone can provide a citation for any real major businesses in Conover, I'm going to take out that section. It is completely unnecessary to list every little fast-food restaurant or small business here, especially in a table like that. Would be better to list who the major employers or discuss any businesses with Wikiarticles that started in Conover. Thank you. -- JoannaSerah (talk) 00:34, 10 March 2012 (UTC)
- Done today. If every McDonald's in the world were listed in the city they are in, there wouldn't be space on the servers for anything else. That list was just silly. Haven't seen one like it on any other settlement article. Won't see it here anymore. Gtwfan52 (talk) 04:13, 24 June 2012 (UTC)
pictures
[edit]I think that the Conover page needs a picture of downtown Conover, and La Quinta Inn and suites- the tallest building in Catawba County and only smaller than Charlottes skyscrapers, and Statesvilles Iredell Memorial Hospital, at 9 stories. — Preceding unsigned comment added by CFD15JR (talk • contribs) 20:23, 28 June 2012 (UTC)
- Totally agree. I am on the other side of the U.S. If you take them, I will be happy to help you upload them. Gtwfan52 (talk) 20:27, 28 June 2012 (UTC)
- One caveat, though. I would rather stay away from pictures of single commercial buildings, unless there is something that makes them notable on a world-wide basis. I don't think a local motel would qualify under that. The hospital and the downtown would be great. Perhaps pictures of the redevelopment at the old clothing factory too. Gtwfan52 (talk) 20:30, 28 June 2012 (UTC)
- Is there a way to get the pictures off of the Conover Station website and then put the picture on the page, and also we need to get the pictures of Conover's city seal, and Conover's flag. I can get you the links to all of the pictures if you want — Preceding unsigned comment added by CFD15JR (talk • contribs) 22:25, 28 June 2012 (UTC)
- The "Conover Station" website is copyrighted, so that is a big no. Either the flag or the seal, but not both can probably go in the infobox. I am pretty sure they can be used as "Fair-use". Also, when you leave a comment on a talk page, please sign it by typing ~~~~. Thanks; Glad to see you want to help. Gtwfan52 (talk) 00:43, 29 June 2012 (UTC)
I am an employee of the City of Conover, and we can get the pictures off of the website, as long as you cite where you got it from, and if not there are several pictures on google images. You can get the flag and seal from: http://www.ncgenweb.us/conover/flagseal.htm. CFD15JR (talk) 02:03, 29 June 2012 (UTC)
- The seal is usable as fair use, regardless of your employment. And you just stating that you are an employee of the city is not enough to release any copyrights. The "Fair Use" doctrine would allow use of the seal, which I will get and post later tonite. The pictures on Google images may or may not be usable. The copyright stays with the person that shot the photo. The easiest way to get an image posted on Wikipedia to stay is to use your own. Basically, to use a web-found image, it has to be on the web on either a CC-BY-SA 3.0 License or a GDFL. It is a bit complicated to say the least. By the way, the ncgenweb site is copyrighted. Fire Dept.
[edit]I am a FireFighter at Conover, and I am thinking about doing a section on the fire department on the Conover page.CFD15JR (talk) 02:05, 29 June 2012 (UTC)
- A small referenced section on the fire department might be ok, but the key word is short. (and referenced). Remember, Wikipedia is intended for a world-wide audience and as such all content needs to be noteworthy on that level. Something along the lines of what you did at Duck is too long. The most important thing is to reference everything you put up on an article. That is the only thing that will give you a defense if someone comes along and takes it down. City of Conover edit
[edit]I took out the edit by the user going by the name City of Conover (talk · contribs). Let me state up front that it doesn't matter if the user is truly acting on any official capacity of Conover. One could see a conflict of interest here, if they really are. I somehow doubt it, though. I reverted it because it has well been discussed here and in the edit summaries why this is not needed. "The Gourd Lady" does not have an article. If you think she truly is notable enough for inclusion, please, Write The Article First. Listings of all the businesses in the town is definitely not needed either in prose or table format as it was previously. I don't know if this is the same person who left the IP messages on my talk page. Regardless, this article cannot be used to simply be another tourism, promotional or EDC site. Largest employers would be good and any companies/organizations that have Wikipedia articles that are based in Conover. Other than that, these edits are not appropriate. Thank you. -- JoannaSerah (talk) 22:10, 6 July 2012 (UTC)
- I, too received a message at my talk page from an IP that purported to be from the City of Conover and indeed was registered to the county government. I would like to add that much of the tone of the additions to this article are over-reaching promotionalism. For example, all of the institutions of higher learning that were formerly listed in this article are actually in Hickory. Same with the media outlets. With the media, if someone would like to add a short sourced section along the lines of "Conover is served by xyz news and abc paper from nearby hooterville", that would be marginally acceptable with sourcing. Also could add "Conover is part of the greater Charlotte TV market", without reference to individual stations. That too should be sourced. If someone could rewrite the former history section without directly copying it from a copyrighted website, that too would be helpful. At one time in the recent past I had all the puff out of this article and have asked for a re-review. Anyone who wants to help would be appreciated. Gtwfan52 (talk) 20:45, 7 July 2012 (UTC)
Apple Datacenter and Solar Farm
[edit]Someone should add a new section on the new Apple iCloud Datacenter and Solar farm in Conover. On September 19,2012 Apple closed on 219 acres for 3 million dollars to build a 100 acre solar farm and a datacenter behind the Walmart and Tri-City Babtist Church. This will make the 3rd datcenter and second solar farm apple has in nc and in Catawba County.CFD15JR (talk) 01:07, 28 September 2012 (UTC)
- Are there any online newspaper articles about it? If not, you can cite the paper copy of the newspaper to reference it. Gtwfan52 (talk) 02:09, 28 September 2012 (UTC)
The Hickory Daily Record has an article along with wbtv, and wsoc news channels, and many more Internet news sites.CFD15JR (talk) 18:19, 30 September 2012 (UTC)
