Why is the Buffalo mass murderer on Wikipedia under Conklin, NY? Shameless...disgusting!

[edit]

Why is the Buffalo mass murderer on Wikipedia under Conklin, NY? Shameless...disgusting! 206.15.97.254 (talk) 01:00, 15 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]

It's widely reported Gendron travelled from Conklin to Buffalo to commit the mass murder. Jjjimg (talk) 14:29, 15 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Curious, any sources on racism in Conklin NY? Why is the town only 1% Black?

[edit]

The demographics section says that the town of Conklin is only 1% Black. Are Black people being discriminated against in housing / real estate there? Why such a strangely low number?

Have Black people been pushed out of there? Only 1% Black is a suspicious number in New York State.

Does anyone have any sources on racism in Conklin New York? If it's there, are there any sources about anything that is being done about it?

Chesapeake77 (talk) 01:12, 15 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]

It's obviously a very topical discussion, and worth looking into for that reason; but the demographics of Conklin don't seem to be too atypical of the area. Other places listen under Broome County have less that 1% African American populations (e.g. Kirkwood 0.6%, Chenango 0.5% and Nanticoke 0.2%) Connelly90 07:36, 16 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Update: Broome County in which Conklin is located, has six (6) times as many Black residents as Conklin does.
I think this justifies a search for (reliable) sources.
Respectfully, Chesapeake77 >>> Truth 03:28, 22 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]
That's why everything I said in that post was a question. I was asking, not accusing.
I didn't say that there definitely is a racist housing situation.
However most of New York State has a lot of Black people, so I am still curious about Conklin, New York (and the county that it resides in).
  • Most importantly however-- I wrote "are their any sources?"
So speculation (on the Talk Page) was only meant to justify a search for sources. Not meant to be WP:SYNTH.
Bold face is only used here to emphasize key points.

Inclusion of 2022 Buffalo shooting perpetrator

[edit]

In the past, inclusion of Payton Gendron, the perpetrator of the 2022 Buffalo shooting was rejected due to both consensus and BLP concerns. The BLP concerns seem to have been addressed today, earlier today as Gendron was sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole. I just wanted to check, is there now a consensus to include Gendron's name in the notable people section? Sideswipe9th (talk) 03:00, 16 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]

He absolutely should be included considering that this incident made national headlines even into the following year. This incident will be talked about for many years to come. I would love to check the IP addresses of those deleting his inclusion among notable people and see if they're actually from Conklin, NY.Shabeki (talk) 03:15, 20 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]
I don't understand why it's controversial to include him. The Buffalo shooting was the first of two back-to-back mass shootings committed by 18-year-olds and directly led to the first federal gun control bill being passed since the 1990s. It's just silly to not include him because "Wahhhh, he was a terrorist" like dude, that's literally the point. He was a notable terrorist, not any more or less notable than Dylann Roof.
