==Question== This article is substantially wrong. The article states that the act confers rights to 'disabled people' to a concessionary bus pass but it does no such thing. The criteria for disabled people is set out in the Transport Act 2000 not here. Most disabilities are not covered as anybody with a severe mental disorder will tell you if the DVLA would issue a driving license you are not entitled to a pass whether you can afford a vehicle or not not even if in receipt of a qualifying benefit such as Personal Independence Payment. Of course anybody of state pension age gets a pass automatically whether they need one or not.
Does the act apply only to UK citizens or does it also apply to visitors and tourists in the United Kingdom? I will watch this page for replies, so please respond here. Thank you. — Athaenara ✉ 08:12, 19 March 2008 (UTC)
- No, only to English citizens: you have to get a permit. David Mestel(Talk) 18:39, 19 March 2008 (UTC)
- I think that should be mentioned in the article. — Athaenara ✉ 05:33, 20 March 2008 (UTC)
That does not seem to be correct. The act talks about “people in England” and “people resident in England”. One does not need to be English, just resident in England. See http://www.dft.gov.uk/pgr/regional/buses/concessionary/answerstofaq/answerstocbtfaq?page=1#a1007 . Perhaps “English people” should be changed to”people resident in England” in the article?Petethewhistle (talk) 17:00, 20 March 2008 (UTC)
Act being resisted
[edit]On the BBC news at the weekend, it was reported that Bus companies (and Local Authorities) have complained that the level of compensation is not sufficient and that the Act is to be challenged in the european courts. Also that some Bus Companies might ignore the act. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 57.67.164.37 (talk) 15:20, 19 March 2008 (UTC)
Merger proposal
[edit]I suggest merging English National Concessionary Travel Scheme into this article, as I feel that as the scheme is set out in the legislation there is little that can be added outside the scope of this article. Discussion of the additional provisions/ eligibility provided by some authorities can easily be included here as can any section on the historical background. This merger would achieve the aim of preventing too much duplication. --wintonian talk 11:00, 5 June 2011 (UTC)
- Oppose I would be persuaded to make the entire retirement schemes link to a piece of legislative history if there were not popular interest in the present and future of the project such as freedom pass. I think this article should not be intertwined with the general scheme which has international comparators, so should be kept to being about the actual scheme. I will add a few examples to English National Concessionary Travel Scheme. Adam37 (talk) 21:23, 2 May 2012 (UTC)
