Update
[edit]I think it is time to update that part. Céline Dion has now the two more sucessful residencies : Celine has now grossed more than 200 million dollars. https://wiki.riteme.site/wiki/Celine_(concert_residency) — Preceding unsigned comment added by 159.33.10.155 (talk) 20:27, 14 September 2018 (UTC)
Definition
[edit]Are we really to believe the history of residency shows starts and ends with the performers listed in the very specific citations that act more like advertisements for the celebrities in question, rather than adhering to guidelines to define what is a residency?— Preceding unsigned comment added by 69.137.150.35 (talk • contribs) 00:54, 28 November 2013 (UTC)
- I have tried to find a source outlining the definition of a residency show, but haven't found one. If you can, then please add the info or link it here! Adabow (talk) 04:51, 28 November 2013 (UTC)
I think the case could be made that the subject itself is notable, given the existence of similar acts in Branson, Missouri and near Orlando, Florida. Indeed, Broadway itself is a metonym for the "residency shows" of New York... though, of course, this is original research on my part, as I've not heard the term applied to Broadway. Perhaps a name change, or a merger with another page, is in order? I'm sure this topic has been covered by more sources, just maybe by a different name. -- JeffBillman (talk) 17:09, 28 January 2017 (UTC)
Historical Revisionism
[edit]The current literatue coming from Vegas IS being used to advertise the current acts. This is an act of historical revisionism and denies the true history of music and Sin City. They would have you believe that Britney made Las Vegas cool again. Sure they would, they want you to buy tickets. To get at the heart of the matter, you must look for historical documents before Britney's residency. And certainly if we want to show that this Wiki article is relevant and must not be deleted, then we must honor the more successful acts of the past, instead of only bowing to misleading advertising for the current crop of artists.

- Is it historic "revisionism" or merely an inaccuracy? Both are apparent in this article. The History section of the article states, "the concept of a concert residency was established by pianist and singer Liberace with a 1944 debut in Las Vegas," citing a 2016 Guardian which does not make that claim. It's an inaccurate claim because Liberace was not the first person with a long term entertainment engagement, nor was he even the first to have such an engagement in Las Vegas. ~ 76.168.151.87 (talk) 18:26, 6 May 2024 (UTC)
Residency definition issue
[edit]The suggestion that a residency is defined as "a run of 10 or more shows at a single venue" has the, probably unintended, consequence of labelling Pink Floyd's 10 shows in Sydney during the A Momentary Lapse of Reason tour from 27 January to 5 February 1988 as a "residency".
