Suggesting Article Improvements

[edit]

I've added my COI tag to the talk page and would like to suggest some improvements that will bring this article up to date and improve its accuracy. I have other suggestions, but I'm starting with changes to the introduction and history section.

My edit suggestions for the introduction are:

Commvault Systems, Inc. is an American publicly traded data protection and data management software company headquartered in Tinton Falls, New Jersey. Commvault enterprise software can be used for data backup and recovery, cloud and infrastructure management, retention and compliance.
+
Commvault Systems, Inc. is an American publicly traded (CVLT:NASDAQ) Cyber resilience and data protection software company. Commvault enterprise software and SaaS-based services can be used for data backup and recovery, data security, AI-powered threat prediction and response, cloud and infrastructure management, retention, and compliance. Commvault is headquartered in Tinton Falls, New Jersey and has 29 offices globally, including those in Beijing, Shanghai, Mumbai, Dubai, Israel, France, Germany and Brazil.

I would also like to request that the following paragraph be added to the end of the History section.

In October 2023, Alex Janas joined Commvault as Field CTO, bringing a focus on offensive security and experience as an analyst and operator with the NSA.[8] In July 2024, Pranay Ahlawat was appointed as the company's first Chief technology & AI officer.[9]

Thank you for your consideration and any feedback is welcome. SBCornelius (talk) 17:36, 20 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Not done: Listing number of clients is considered promotional. Axad12 (talk) 17:12, 8 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@ Axad12, thank you for the input. I have removed the number of customers stat from my request. I would also appreciate input on my other requested changes to the intro paragraph. The current language is somewhat dated and doesn't give an accurate summary. I've included several references here that show Commvault is currently understood as a cyber resilience company. I'll also change the COI tag back to n in case this isn't something you can prioritize at the moment. Thank you for your time.

Partly done I've added the offices. I will let someone else address the buzzword bingo. OXYLYPSE (talk) 14:22, 23 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@OXYLYPSE Thank you! SBCornelius (talk) 20:33, 23 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Not done for now: buzzwords sound WP:PROMO Encoded  Talk 💬 09:37, 26 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Hi @Encoded, and thanks for reviewing my suggestions. I have a few other edits to suggest, but I'd like to clarify this point before I move on. Are you saying that "cyber resilience" it a buzzword and that should be used to describe the company? Thanks again for your time and any feedback is appreciated. SBCornelius (talk) 19:54, 1 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Hi, I have no problem with cyber resilience specifically, the section I have issue with is "Commvault enterprise software and SaaS-based services can be used for data backup and recovery, data security, AI-powered threat prediction and response" sounding promotional - particularly the AI powered bit being in the lead. Encoded  Talk 💬 20:48, 1 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Hi @Encoded, I've made some edits to my proposed lead. Please let me know if you think this will work.
Commvault Systems, Inc. is an American publicly traded (CVLT:NASDAQ)[10] Cyber resilience[11] and data protection software company.  Commvault enterprise software and SaaS-based services are used for data backup, recovery and security[12][13], as well as cloud and infrastructure management, retention, and compliance.
Thanks! SBCornelius (talk) 17:15, 21 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Hi @Encoded, I hope all is well. I wanted to resurface this to see what you think of my proposed changes to the intro paragraph. Thanks for your time, and any feedback is welcomed. SBCornelius (talk) 20:35, 13 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Products - clean up list

[edit]

It looks like the products list is outdated. Commvault seems to produce one thing, the Commvault Cloud. Previous items from the list like Metallic is now part of the Commvault cloud, as explained here: https://metallic.io/. Any concerns if I move all the items to a "Previous Products" section and put "Commvault Cloud" under Products? Fairwin99 (talk) 21:50, 13 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Hi@Fairwin99! I'm a connected contributor with an edit request pending (see the above section on this Talk page). I have only requested changes to the intro paragraph, but I have suggested edits to other sections drafted and planned on posting them once the edits to the intro were settled.
I have a new subsection that deals with the issue you've found regarding Metalic and Commvault Cloud. I thought I would drop it here to see if you found it helpful. This would be under the Software section and be titled Software as a Service.
On October 14, 2019, Commvault launched Metallic, a SaaS backup and recovery service for the mid-market, allowing customers to backup on-premises data to their own backup system, their public cloud, Metallic's public cloud, or a combination of both.[14] In November 2023, Commvault announced the launch of Commvault Cloud,[15][16] a platform powered by Metallic that unifies the company's data protection and resilience capabilities.[17] The system integrates a number of security and AI partners, including Avira, CyberArk, Darktrace, Databricks, Entrust, Microsoft Sentinal, Netskope, Palo Alto Networks, and Trellix.[18] In August 2024, the company announced an expansion of its security partnerships to include, Google Cloud, Splunk, Dasera, Wiz and Acante.[19] Commvault Cloud utilizes a generative AI copilot to provide users with real-time insights, code assistance, and setup assistance.[20] In May 2024, the company launched Commvault Cleanroom Recovery, an on-demand service that allows organizations to create an isolated and secure environment for restoring backed-up data during a cyber attack.[21]
Thanks and let me know your thoughts. SBCornelius (talk) 18:36, 19 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Not Done. The text above is obviously promotional in intent. Axad12 (talk) 12:58, 22 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]
