Talk:Community of Writers

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Hello. I am interested in developing the Community of Writers wiki page so it more closely resembles those of other similar writing conferences such as Breadloaf and Sewanee and so the page is more accurate as well. I respect the mission of Wikipedia and understand that my relationship to the conference can be seen as problematic. However, I think my additions can be useful. Any advice appreciated.

How can we change the name of this entry?

[edit]

I must admit I don’t have the WP skills to change the name of this entry. Perhaps a new page, and then this becomes a redirect?

The thing is, the organization has dropped “Squaw Valley” from its name, and Squaw Valley ITSELF has changed its name to Olympic Valley. So, usage of the term has been doubly abandoned. Can anyone make the change, or at least talk me through the steps? Thanks. P L E A T H E R talk 00:44, 17 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]

@Pleather: I renamed the article to "Community of Writers" based on the current name they're using. However, renaming the place's article is more challenging because there's some debate among editors as to what the place should be called. There's currently a request to rename that article; you're welcome to participate in the discussion and offer your opinion. Minh Nguyễn 💬 10:38, 14 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Why I edited the paragraph relating to the community's name the way I did.

[edit]

This community is referred to by its former names in older resources. As offensive as these older names are, they are an indelible part of its history, even if they don't reflect on the intentions of the community in any way. I think its necessary to reveal its previous names so future readers and researchers won't be confused or misled in their research. Oona Wikiwalker (talk) 01:51, 20 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
