Halifax Firsts and Records

[edit]

Added a large portion of factual records and firsts for the city, but this might be best served a separate article just for that kind of thing. Especially with the whole "former city" thing.. What do you think?

Maybe with a pre- and post-amalgamation heading on an article for these. WarBaCoN 07:18, 27 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

The former city of Halifax still deals with the present community of Halifax which is separate from the halifax Regional Municipality which is aregion.--Markhamman 13:43, 27 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

  • I ask because the article states, "This is the history of the former City of Halifax (1749-1996). Any historical information subsequent to its dissolution should be placed in the History of the Halifax Regional Municipality." Because records stand in current day, which crosses over the 1996 boundary, it still leaves me wondering where would be best to place the list of historical firsts and records for the city of halifax (and would be considered held by the Halifax Regional Municipality in at least some sense). It seems to make sense to have a list of firsts and records within the HRM, and a simple qualifier note for records set in the community of Halifax (former city). Otherwise it seems to get unnecessarily complicated to review that kind of information, especially with post-1996 records being generally accredited to the HRM rather than the community of Halifax, along with all other communities pre and post amalgamation. Date incorrect

[edit]

Everything I have read has the founding date of Halifax being June 21, 1749. This date is also listed here on Wikipedia as the founding of Halifax. I work at the Maritime Museum of the Atlantic in Halifax and we checked this out today as I saw the listing of July 9. I am going to make the change but would be interested in hearing sources that cite July 9.Wonnkabe 00:54, 30 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Hasty move

[edit]

Oops - I goofed and moved this earlier today to the present name without realizing it deals mainly with the former city and not the larger region. Perhaps we can get it reverted. Plasma east 02:27, 26 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Moved back. Hu 07:49, 26 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Proposed Merger

[edit]

History of Halifax, Nova Scotia already covers the history of the Town and City of Halifax. WayeMason 11:21, 30 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I must agree, I see no reason to have two articles on the history of Halifax pre-amalgamation, and the title of this article is more informative as to it's purpose. --hfx_chris 14:54, 30 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]
