Title change

[edit]

The Chief of the Land Staff is now known as "Commander Canadian Army". I will make the change in article title. Sunray (talk) 06:21, 21 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Commander of the Canadian Army?

[edit]

This is one of those small, picky things that is nevertheless important: getting the correct article title. Plasma east changed the title from "Commander Canadian Army" to "Commander of the Canadian Army." While I do agree that "Commander of the Canadian Army" sounds better, (and even "Commander, Canadian Army" seems more grammatically correct), I could find no source to support either. The only source I could find was this one (and its subordinate link). Which article title should we use? "Commander Canadian Army," which is used by DND, or "Commander of the Canadian Army"? It seems there is no consistency in how the CF names its heads. One would expect that the position should be Commander of the Canadian Army based on how the RCAF head is named, but they must have their reasons for naming the army head differently. I guess we have to decide whether to use the actual title of the position or a "generic" title (with "the"). My vote is to use the actual name that's on the army's web site (Commander Canadian Army). - BC  talk to me 18:56, 23 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]
There having been no other comment, I made the move back to Commander Canadian Army. Sunray (talk) 03:01, 27 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]
While I don't know, this sounds like the general simplification we've had for the past two or three decades to create terms in government which transition easily between English and French.
That would be my guess here. Varlaam (talk) 21:48, 2 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]
