Article needs additional references

[edit]

Hi, I tagged the article as the following sections have no references at all

  • Stone mines
  • Site of Roman Villa
  • De Montalt Mill
  • Local flora

Does anyone have any sources they can add to verify these sections? --Pontificalibus (talk) 00:22, 13 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I've added several references to the sections which lacked them (& removed the banner) hopefully these are now satisfactory.— Rod talk 14:07, 13 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Village category

[edit]

The village category of Combe Down is tricky. It was never a village during the existence of Bath and North East Somerset, as it was absorbed into Bath in the 1950s, and is no longer a village. In this respect it is in the same position as Twerton and Weston, Bath which do not use a Village category. So for correctness these three should either be in Category:Villages in Somerset as a former Somerset village, or in no Village category reflecting the current position as with Twerton and Twerton. I'm inclined to drop the Village category. Views? Rwendland (talk) 10:03, 22 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I don't know the place, so perhaps it isn't really a village in any sense; but the article describes it as a village several times (talking about the present day), so if that's justified, then I think it can also be categorized as a village.--Kotniski (talk) 10:18, 22 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]
It should definitely be in Category:Districts of Bath, Somerset & Category:Electoral wards in Bath and North East Somerset each of which cover the whole area, however the small area around the church, shops & as far as Firs Field is known by locals (my parents in law live there) as "the village" - being the traditional centre rather than newer housing estates etc. I think this reflects difficulties in definition of what is a village, which doesn't mean anything in ONS Census data or local government circles.— Rod talk 10:25, 22 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]
[edit]

There has been some good work going on with this article recently however I would suggest that the external links list is getting too long. Wikipedia:External links gives some guidance but I would suggest removing the Nursery, Doctors surgery, garage, primary school, cricket clubs and the photograph collections (this is what the link to the Wikimedia Commons category should be doing. I would also suggest that the list of listed buildings would be better in prose and perhaps only include those which are particularly significant per Wikipedia:Manual of Style/Embedded lists. There are also significant sections of the text which are not supported by citations Wikipedia:Verifiability explains why this is important and Wikipedia:Citing sources explains various ways to do this (but if you need any help with this let me know).— Rod talk 19:57, 27 May 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Having looked a little more closely I note there are a lot of unverified claims which need citations to support them. I would also suggest using the guidelines and suggestions for article structure and content, laid out at Wikipedia:WikiProject UK geography/How to write about settlements, which seems to have been changed recently. Using national guidelines helps the reader to navigate through consistent formats of multiple pages.— Rod talk 11:03, 30 May 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Storm of 1987.

[edit]

I wonder if it's worth having a section on the storm of 1987 and the effects on Rainbow Wood.

I remember as a kid the wood being closed for some time after while they cleared it all... which was quite sad. I'd love to see photos of before and after. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 82.17.35.155 (talk) 11:05, 1 November 2015 (UTC)[reply]
