[edit]I've expanded the island biogeography references to include taxon cycles (part of me wonders whether they're worth an article on their own?) and moved them to the introduction. Another area of ecological theory to which colonization is fundamental is climate change, especially the capacity of species to colonize themselves or if human intervention is necessary to translocate some individuals. Do people agree with those recommendations? Emble64 (talk) 07:59, 25 September 2010 (UTC)
An addition to my earlier comment, I also think references are needed next to each example of recent colonisations. Emble64 (talk) 19:21, 25 September 2010 (UTC)
Rated as a stub because it's very short and still island biogeography focused. A useful concept, but not central to ecology so rated it Mid importance. Maybe some other examples expanding on the biofilm idea would be good - could colonisation also include reference to parasites establishing in a new host, for instance???
