meanings of colloquium

[edit]

I wouldn't have written this article on my own devices; I did it because what was here before clearly needed to be moved (it's now at Colloquium (College of Engineering, Guindy) ), and I couldn't leave the redirect. So I wrote a brief paragraph about colloquia in my experience. Some of the links to this page suggest that others have different understandings of what a colloquium is (for example, one suggests that it's a type of course for credit). So maybe someone would like to expand the article and give sources and so on. --Trovatore 21:04, 15 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

As I happened to be studying torts in my first year of law school and needed some clarity on the definition, once I found it I added it. --Spetsnaz13 22:51, 12 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

One's own experience is not good enough grounds to write an article purporting to define a word. That may be acceptable at the Urban Dictionary, but not here. Even worse, the referenced dictionary definition contradicts the interpretation propounded here. Replacing the article with a disambiguation page, keeping the pointer to the Parliament of Scotland and a pointer to the (properly referenced and comprehensive) Wiktionary entry. Prayers and harps

[edit]

I removed more fictional etymology, again:

  • a conversation with God (literally "prayer with harp"

There's no "literally" about it; the latin term involves neither harp nor god. bobrayner (talk) 12:29, 20 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]
