Chuck Norris

[edit]

As far as I know, he's never actually lived within College Station city limits. I know he owns a ranch about half an hour from CS, and presumably it was because of that he was included in the list of notable residents. I'm deleting his name. Dkostic 01:28, 8 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Dixie Chicken

[edit]

That picture is photoshopped.

Sister Cities

[edit]

College Station does not have sister cities in Germany or Russia —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 204.56.145.162 (talk) 17:18, 8 May 2007 (UTC).[reply]

Wrong. I went ahead and cited this from sister cities international. This info. is also listed on the city pages of both places.Bradenkeith (talk) 00:43, 23 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

"Equidistant"

[edit]

I'm no pedant, but that's not a legitimate use of the word. The distance from CS to Dallas is more than twice that from CS to Houston. Moreover, the distances given in the opening paragraph seem altered for the purpose of fitting this "approximately equidistant" claim. From downtown to downtown - let alone from boundary to boundary - College Station is closer to Houston than the distance listed. A completely different standard has been used to measure the distance from Dallas to College Station. With no malicious intent, the opening paragraph of this article was filled with grossly misleading information. It must be changed to reflect reality. Cost of Living

[edit]

I removed the sentence on cost of living. First, it wasn't cited. Second, I'm pretty sure it's incorrect--places like Laredo and Abilene almost certainly have a cheaper cost of living. --Velvet elvis81 18:13, 1 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

College station is nowhere near San Antonio —Preceding unsigned comment added by 74.192.45.17 (talk) 08:24, August 29, 2007 (UTC)

Quarter Million?

[edit]

I'll be shocked if CS reaches a quarter million in 2025 unless there are some major changes in the job market around here. 128.194.26.248 13:35, 25 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Patrick Zurek

[edit]

I'm working on Bishop Zurek's Wiki page right now; he was the founding pastor of St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church in College Station and spent 10 years there. The header does say "have lived OR currently living", so it's appropriate based on other entries in the list (including Chuck Norris, still there even though he's never lived in CS?) Racooper (talk) 14:59, 17 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

As noted, nothing currently gave any indication he ever lived in CS. If the article survives AfD, feel free to readd with source showing he lived in CS. The rest in the list need sourcing too...*sigh* I'm tempted to just clear most out unless a source is added soon. AnmaFinotera (talk) 15:03, 17 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]
The list could be easily shortened if those that are duplicated on the List of Texas A&M University people are removed. I will work on this if I have time later. Racooper (talk) 14:49, 19 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Area Independent schools

[edit]

yea, I know...one controversy after another. you removed St. Joseph School, but left Allen, St. Michaels and Brazos Christian which are all also in Bryan. Either St. Joseph should be added as an "Area" school, or all the rest removed as not in College Station. Racooper (talk) 02:41, 19 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

They should probably all be removed. Its such a pain dealing with our schools, since one can live in CS and go to any of them. Blech. But as this is the College Station article, it should probably only have the actual CS schools. AnmaFinotera (talk) 02:42, 19 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]
based on the latest edit and remand, maybe the headers for the education section should not read "Area" college and schools, but "Local" maybe? or just "Colleges and Universities" and "School Districts"? Racooper (talk) 19:57, 3 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Could be an idea. The whole article needs some reorganization and reworking around the cities MoS, but that would be a start. -- AnmaFinotera (talk · contribs) 19:53, 3 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

References

[edit]

Of all the info provided on this page and about 16 sections in the article altogether, there's only 5 references. --Epborn (talk) 21:09, 11 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Yes, that's why its tagged for needing additional references :P -- AnmaFinotera (talk · contribs) 21:26, 11 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Kyle Field

[edit]

Does anyone know where a source giving the height of Kyle Field could be found? I haven't been able to figure out where the height listed for it in the Tallest buildings section of the article came from.EagleAg04 (talk) 02:36, 2 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Notable Residents

[edit]

Before adding people to this list, please make sure they're not already on the List of Texas A&M University people, and give citations. Also, RE: Henry C. Dethloff probably belongs on the TAMU List instead of in the College Station article. Racooper (talk) 14:22, 27 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Law and Government

[edit]

Should this section include information about entities other than the local municipality (and maybe Brazos County)? re: the Texas Forest Service addition. Racooper (talk) 15:30, 31 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

If we are going to do that, it should also include the rest: Texas AgriLife Extension, Texas AgriLife Research, Texas AgriLife itself, and the other various state agencies with a headquarters here (mostly at the A&M campus). -- AnmaFinotera (talk · contribs) 16:12, 31 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I would think those belong on the TAMU article then and not here...don't forget TEES and TEEX too, and Texas Task Force One! Racooper (talk) 21:21, 2 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]
They aren't part of TAMU, though. They are part of TAMUS, but not the university itself). The Texas A&M University System does list them all, but if we are going to list Forest Service, we should list them all as they are all the same sort of thing. -- AnmaFinotera (talk · contribs) 00:28, 3 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]
TAMU, TAMUS, whatever in this case...I don't think it belongs in the College Station article. I wanted to get input on it before I removed the TFS blurb though. So what is the consensus? Racooper (talk) 01:39, 4 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Based on the guidelines in WP:WikiProject_Cities/Guideline#Government, only city government needs to be described in that section. I don't feel that including Texas A&M University System agencies falls within the scope of this article. EagleAg04 (talk) 04:13, 4 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I moved "Law and government" to the new "Government" section, revising it in a more neutral tone and removing the sentences that seemed to argue for the superiority of council-manager government over other forms. I also dropped the part that implies that council members serve without compensation of any kind ("part time volunteers"). That is certainly notable if true, but needs to be verified. — ℜob C. alias ᴀʟᴀʀoʙ 17:29, 26 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

City Manager (in sidebar)

[edit]

What can be done to remove the wikilink to Glenn Brown's name? it's not coded that way in the sidebar, and I the link points to a completely incorrect person. Racooper (talk) 03:04, 22 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Fixed. That template is so grrr....to "fix" it, you have to put   behind the person's name, even though the vast majority of city managers will never be notable. -- AnmaFinotera (talk · contribs) 03:14, 22 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Deleting Some Things

[edit]

I deleted the entire "City Name" headline, because all of its information was covered under Historical Events (plus Historical Events had cited it's information, whereas City Name had not), as well as a very biased paragraph at the end of the Northgate District section that talked of police officers setting up college students to pay fines (the paragraph was very informally written, had no citation, and stunk of bias). JActon5493 (talk) 18:40, 19 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]

2012 shooting

[edit]

Hello. Should the shooting be considered part of the city's history? I do not thing this event is notable. There was a shooting in Boston with the same number of casualties yesterday [1]. In addition, shootings of this type are not rare in the U.S. ComputerJA (talk) 02:08, 14 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Main picture

[edit]

Hi. This is just a thought. Right now the main picture for article is a picture of the TAMU campus. I know that TAMU is part of CS and that besides the university there are not a lot of landmarks in CS. Having said that, I think it is an overkill and a misrepresentation to show TAMU's campus as if that is the town. Yousowiki (talk) 04:07, 18 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]

College Station-Bryan?

[edit]

If I remember correctly, College Station and the nearby city of Bryan merged recently/will merge. What is to be done about this? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Olgarmgn (talkcontribs) 19:17, 27 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Poverty statistics

[edit]

I made this edit related to poverty statistics, which includes data from U.S. Census Bureau and an article by Forbes. However I believe this number might be skewed by the fact that Texas A&M University has the Largest enrolled student body in the U.S., many of which are full-time students and otherwise unemployed. However I cannot find a source to confirm this being the cause of such a high statistic. The Pony Toast 🍞 (Talk) 20:21, 15 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Update: I found some relevant articles from the Census Bureau and decided to be bold. I've updated the section. The Pony Toast 🍞 (Talk) 20:42, 15 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]
