Asking Info

Hey there.

Someone gimme a little help here. I am a big fan of BSSM and I wanted to know something.

Lesse...Codename wa Sailor V was defintely created before Bishojo Senshi Sailor Moon (the manga) right? And, BSSM was only created because the producer people (TV Asahi) saw Codename wa Sailor V, were inspired, and decided to expand the series.

Upon being encouraged to expand the series, Naoko Takeuchi created Sailor Moon (the character) and the series.

...

Which means that Sailor Moon was never meant to exist (you can see this from the slow progress in early designs and sketches from Takeuchi). More info: http://mangastyle.net/manga_intro.htm

Which means that Codename wa Sailor V had its own individual, distinct, storyline that was never shown because it had to get (awkwardly) melded with BSSM. The point is, there's a lost storyline. Does anybody agree with this? I don't think this should be put into the article, but does anybody have any more info?

X Ces't La V x 18:01, 6 August 2006 (UTC)

No, I do not agree. You have to be able to SOURCE and CITE your info. We cannot speculate. Unless you have a definite source for this, I wouldn't add it to the article. While it is true it preceded Sailor Moon, and Takeuchi felt that she could create Sailor Moon as well, Sailor Moon being, thus a spin-off, Takeuchi also expressed interest after both series had ended in a Codename wa Sailor V anime. (this can be sourced from Princes Back to Work Punch, Punch 1, found on Alex Glover's site). So unless you have an article, and sentiment from someone exactly to this fact it cannot be added. --Hitsuji Kinno 16:07, 6 October 2006 (UTC)

There is a lost storyline but it's not BSSM's fault exactly. It has to do with the magazine that ran Sailor V ending the manga suddenly. I think it shut down. Which is why there are issues of Sailor V that came out much later and also why a planned OVA for the manga where they would go in dept about Minako's story and probably a better explanation for Daburite's connection to the Dark Kingdom, but without the company it fell true.

I read that Naoko admitted to have more planned for Minako but the cancelation of the manga gave her little choice.

Please sign your posts. This is also false. She ended the manga very smoothly and after Sailor Moon. It was not abrupt as you imply. The "lost" storyline would have to be, again, sourced. It's a misreading of Shinzoubon Volume 3 Punch notes:

Left panel 4: -But the position of main character was snatched away by Sailor Moon. Run-Run, the magazine she was serialized in, went belly-up. The OVA they planned to put out never came out. She met a harsh fate. It's enough to make one sick. [Minako]: Where did Run-Run go? When is my video coming out? [Pig]: Umm... [Bunny]: It's not my fault! http://www.kurozuki.com/takeuchi/sailormoon/volume03.html--Hitsuji Kinno 14:56, 8 October 2006 (UTC)

Pronunciation

Codename wa Sailor V (kō-DAY-naw-MAY waw SAY-lər VEE) --PJ Pete

Where are you getting that? They're mostly English words; I'm pretty sure it would go "kōdo nēmu wa sēɺā bui," just as the katakana currently reads. --Masamage 02:03, 14 September 2006 (UTC)

ISBN numbers

I'm adding them in from the original manga, then the shinzoubon. It'll be useful later. --Hitsuji Kinno 16:07, 6 October 2006 (UTC)

Cutting info about comparisons

The bit about comparing to Usagi Tsukino is being cut by me since that's sonmething that should go on her profile, and not here as per the wikipedia SM project rules. --Hitsuji Kinno 16:27, 6 October 2006 (UTC)

I'm not sure I agree. I saw it as a comparison of protagonists--of main characters, stars of the show. So comparing the way Sailor V and Sailor Moon are similar as centers-of-the-storyline is totally relevant for either main series article. (Better here than on the Sailor Moon page just 'cause that's so darned long.) --Masamage 00:15, 7 October 2006 (UTC)
I agree with Masamage, so I puting it again. Kazu-kun 01:38, 7 October 2006 (UTC)
Even so, it's partially inaccurate. The reason Sailor Moon and Sailor V are so alike, down to some of the powers they use is because Venus was often associated with the moon, as were many female dieties in Greek and Roman Mythology. Venus was said to go through cycles in mythology which irectly coincided with the moon. The association with the moon can be seen in Crescent Beam, etc. It's *possible* that it was done because the protagonists are to the kind of character that Takeuchi tends to like to create for her lead characters, such as Chieri, but the similarities even showed up scarily in the anime down to them echoing each other, which makes me think that since this is true that it was a mythological issue, since much of the mythology that the manga missed often showed up in the anime. If you need mythological sources and backing for this, I can pull up some to verify it. Including Bullfinch's mythology. So I think it has MORE to do with mythology than it has to do with one being based on the other. Note also that Takeuchi directly stated Minako as very fickle which is why she drew one image with Asters in it, the flower language for fickle, in one of her liner notes. --Hitsuji Kinno 15:05, 8 October 2006 (UTC)

Images

We need the One image they have of her for the anime (they reuse it over and over!) and one from PGSM.... For the latter i was thinking of the shot where she's fighting Tuxideo Kamen and She faces the camera with the crescent held in front of her bow..—Preceding unsigned comment added by Lego3400 (talkcontribs)

This isn't about the character Sailor V, though, it's about the manga series. There would need to be a good reason to bring those in. --Masamage 08:07, 9 November 2006 (UTC)

We have alot of info on her as a charcter though!Lego3400: The Sage of Time 23:50, 11 November 2006 (UTC)

I count...three sentences worth.
Besides, the article is called Codename wa Sailor V, not just Sailor V. The things you're talking about happen in Pretty Soldier Sailor Moon and Pretty Guardian Sailor Moon, which are entirely different series. To use that many pictures of the same character here, we would have to have a Fair Use rationale, which would require some kind of comparison to be happening--but since all three versions look exactly the same, and the other two have no particular relation to this manga series, there is no comparison to make. So I don't think copyright law would allow it. --Masamage 00:06, 12 November 2006 (UTC)
I was thinking... Instead of reusing the manga image for Minako's article, could we perhaps use a pic from PGSM instead? Or should it be anime? -SaturnYoshi THE VOICES 00:23, 12 November 2006 (UTC)
I don't think I have a preference. :)
You know, I've just realized that a composite image of all three "versions" might be both acceptable and really, really cool. --Masamage 00:32, 12 November 2006 (UTC)
Actually that's a good idea!!! The only "good" images I can find from PGSM are magazine promos. If I can cover up the background with other pics, it could work. -SaturnYoshi THE VOICES 00:42, 12 November 2006 (UTC)
Did some digging and found this site...looks pretty good to me, what do you think? --Masamage 00:54, 12 November 2006 (UTC)
Three images I found are: this one, this one and this one. -SaturnYoshi THE VOICES 01:01, 12 November 2006 (UTC)
Cools. Further resources: here's another good anime shot, and here's an excellet PGSM shot. --Masamage 01:05, 12 November 2006 (UTC)

On my end, the first one is really small, and I'm getting a "Forbidden" message on the second. -SaturnYoshi THE VOICES 01:08, 12 November 2006 (UTC)

Alright I was able to bring up the second. I can also remove the time stamp. -SaturnYoshi THE VOICES 01:12, 12 November 2006 (UTC)

Oops. ^^; Sorry about the smallness, but I liked your anime shot better anyway, so I found a crisper version. (I typed 'crispier'...don't know what that would mean.
So, what I'm imagining is a three-way split, with a top-left section, a top-right section, and a bottom-middle section. It seems like these images would fit into that extremely well:
Left, Right, Middle. --Masamage 01:29, 12 November 2006 (UTC)
I went with a different anime image and this is what I came up with. -SaturnYoshi THE VOICES 01:45, 12 November 2006 (UTC)

Sailor V's Powers

I know we are trying to keep Sailor V info on this page and out of other pages but Sailor V's Powers Seem Kinda out of place. Wouldn't be better to move them (Back?) to Minako's page? I'll put a merge propose tag up now... —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Lego3400 (talkcontribs) 21:11, 31 December 2006 (UTC).

Theres been no objections so i'm moveing it now! 71.60.172.54 03:44, 13 January 2007 (UTC)

Out of place here, you say? what are your arguments? I think Sailor V powers belong to this article. After all, this IS the article for Sailor V. Kazu-kun 04:57, 13 January 2007 (UTC)
I'm inclined to agree, but I don't feel strongly about it. --Masamage 04:58, 13 January 2007 (UTC)

No, this is about the sailor v manga, not sailor v herself--Lego3400: The Sage of Time 18:01, 13 January 2007 (UTC)

That much is true. --Masamage 18:10, 13 January 2007 (UTC)

Also that list is still word for word from the site below regardless (the charcters have had 2 tidbits added but thats it) --—Preceding unsigned comment added by Lego3400 (talkcontribs)

Yeah, geez. I rephrased a lot of the stuff over on the Minako page, but I don't know if it was enough. --Masamage 02:58, 14 January 2007 (UTC)

Lists

It seems that all the lists on this page were pulled word for word from http://sailorv.animehunters.com/ This should probably be fixed. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Lego3400 (talkcontribs)

Danburite

is he dead? Darkhero17 11:05, 27 March 2007 (UTC)

I've always assumed so, but I haven't read it. Anyone know for sure? --Masamage 17:45, 27 March 2007 (UTC)
Alex Glover (who did the novelisation of Codename: Sailor V) certainly seems to think so... He wrote that Danburite's body disintegrated. -Malkinann 21:31, 2 April 2007 (UTC)
who killed him? ♥Eternal Pink-Ready to fight for love and grace♥ 08:50, 16 April 2007 (UTC)
Minako most likely... —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Lego3400 (talkcontribs) 15:51, 3 May 2007 (UTC).

but i thorght he was her tuxedo mask god im confused i should read it ♥Eternal Pink-Ready to fight for love and grace♥ 16:08, 8 May 2007 (UTC)

He's in love with her and rescues her a lot, but he actually works for the Shitennou. It looks to me like his death is half self-defense on her part and half suicide on his part. --Masamage 21:52, 8 May 2007 (UTC)

English name

This should probably be moved to Codename: Sailor V with the current name as a redirect. No reason to have it in Japanese; the "most common" rule doesn't apply, because Western audiences usually leave off the 'Codename' part anyway. --Masamage 04:59, 30 April 2007 (UTC)

Since this doesn't seem controversial, I'll go ahead and make the move. If somebody disagrees we can always move it back and discuss. --Masamage 17:10, 30 April 2007 (UTC)

Pipe hyphen

Where are those characters at the top of the article coming from? I can't find them. --Masamage 04:02, 19 November 2007 (UTC)

No idea. Maybe from one of the infoboxes? I'll go check. --Hanaichi 12:50, 19 November 2007 (UTC)
Fixed it. It was the top infobox.--Hanaichi 12:53, 19 November 2007 (UTC)
I still can't really see where you removed it from, but I'm glad you did. :) Thanks! --Masamage 18:13, 19 November 2007 (UTC)

Whee Scanlations Yay!

I just got my hands on Scanlations of the Sailor V manga. I'll add a ton of info as soon as can get home and finish the last chapter.Lego3400: The Sage of Time (talk) 18:47, 18 March 2008 (UTC)

Yatte! We don't need a ton of info, but some would be nice. X) --Masamage 19:23, 18 March 2008 (UTC)
Well anyways, you can get the Scans for free from Sailormoonfansubs.com. You have to make an account on the fourm but thats not a big deal as it is a Sailor moon forum :P Lego3400: The Sage of Time (talk)

I just saw the the Japanese Wikipedia page for Sailor V that it was changed to Codename Sailor V because the first name was already a registered trademark of the Sailor Pens company. Or something like that...

Although the work herewas [ animation-] due to beized at first, "Sailor V" is. Sailor Pen It is "beauty-in-the-bud fighter Sailor Moon which it could not be used since it was registered as a trademark, but the plan was changed, and was produced." and -- 1995 には -- a form faithful to an original -- "a code name being Sailor V" OVA -- although-izing (all the four-volume schedules) was announced temporarily, it became a work stop according to the various situation. It is the on-the-spot photo version behind. V cinema The leading role's work was put on the market for Sailor V.

Not the best translation but you get the idea. I don't know if there was any sources for it though... 75.45.75.183 (talk) 22:39, 28 July 2008 (UTC)

...Wait, are you saying that Sailor V was originally going to be called Sailor Pen?
Oh, I guess you're not. Putting that same chunk of Japanese through Google Translate gets me this:
This is the first animated film was to be, "Sailor V" is a registered trademark of Sailor Pen Co., which was not available for the project has been changed to be born "Sailor Moon". In 1995, and, faithful to the original form of "Sailor is code-named V" of the OVA (4 total volume) was temporarily released, but stopped production due to various reasons. After a live-action version of Sailor V V cinema will be released in the leading role.
Okay, so that's saying that the name Sailor V was unavailable in the first place. Interesting. And confusing. X) I think we'd probably need some sources in order to use it, but interesting nonetheless! --Masamage 23:02, 28 July 2008 (UTC)

Yeah translating is always confusing when its not done by a professional. Sorry, but yes it appears "Sailor V" was already a registered trademark (they probably had a pen by that name I don't know...). Anyways, the company exists and it is stated very plainly on the Japanese Wikipedia but I couldn't tell if there were any sources attached, maybe someone who can understand it better can check?75.45.75.183 (talk) 04:48, 29 July 2008 (UTC)

Article Image

I just noticed we have covers of Both Volume one and 2 uploaded to the server (Volume one is on the page covering the Sailor V chapters) Do we really need both or can we choose one to put in both places? Lego3400: The Sage of Time (talk) 08:40, 10 October 2009 (UTC)

Volume 1 is enough for both, and the second cover doesn't add anything to the article. It may be the monitor on my laptop, but the cover of volume 1 does seem too light. When I get back from Tsubasacon, I'll rescan the cover for a better quality image. —Farix (t | c) 11:54, 10 October 2009 (UTC)

Anime vs manga.

In the anime it is made clear that Sailor V was fighting in England not Japan. Also while Sailor Venus previous identity as Sailor V is mentioned little to nothing it stated about who she was fighting in the anime and no clear ties to any of the other forces is made.--BruceGrubb (talk) 10:19, 3 March 2010 (UTC)

Because this article is not about the Sailor Moon anime. In teh sailor V manga she never went to England and Katrina and Allen do not exist. Thus none of that is mentioned here.--Lego3400: The Sage of Time (talk) 06:47, 10 March 2010 (UTC)
Actually if there is enough info it could have a mention of it in some sort of legacy section.Lucia Black (talk) 04:57, 29 November 2011 (UTC)

Bit relating to inclusion of Sailor V

Seems there's an unnecessary bit saying what is already said but not directly. Its done in a very trivial form. There's no need to clarify what is already clear. That section seems to sugggest something closer to sailor moon and may be bias.Lucia Black (talk) 01:58, 24 December 2011 (UTC)

Anyone?Lucia Black (talk) 23:24, 4 January 2012 (UTC)

I'm sorry, what do you mean? --Malkinann (talk) 23:29, 4 January 2012 (UTC)
The additional mention of it being released for the first time due to tokyopop never releasing it in english.Lucia Black (talk) 23:32, 4 January 2012 (UTC)
Oh, right! That's been highlighted in some of the reviews of Sailor V, so it warrants a mention. --Malkinann (talk) 23:38, 4 January 2012 (UTC)

Seems bias the way its shown. I dont really see the necesity. Just an extra mention. If it was somehow reworked to have a less 1st person tone, then maybe.Lucia Black (talk) 23:42, 4 January 2012 (UTC)

Please feel free to be bold and reword the mention to improve any issues with neutrality - I've provided a couple of citations which talk about how it is the first time it's been published in English. --Malkinann (talk) 23:47, 4 January 2012 (UTC)
Im still wondering if the necesity. I cant be bold and rework the sentence if i myelf cant see the necesity of that just because that trivial and obvious aspect is sourced. Which ANN review was rather indirect compared to manga worth reading review.Lucia Black (talk) 23:51, 4 January 2012 (UTC)
The reviews I cited there talk about how the publication of Sailor V in English is long-awaited, and highlight its importance, as did the news announcement of Sailor V's publication. --Malkinann (talk) 23:59, 4 January 2012 (UTC)

Im not so sure. Again...the sentence looks off. The highlight of its importance looks more like a claarification.Lucia Black (talk) 00:03, 5 January 2012 (UTC)

Comparison to Sailormoon

I move to cut since it has no references and the content is already elsewhere... It seems like OR and opinion to boot.--Hitsuji Kinno (talk) 18:48, 16 January 2012 (UTC)

I agree. Some of it seems trivial but it could be sourced.Lucia Black (talk) 01:16, 18 January 2012 (UTC)
Since no additional references have been produced, and the only referenced piece of info is found later in the article. I am going to Be Bold and delete this section of the article.DoctorLazarusLong (talk) 18:45, 11 May 2012 (UTC)
