I'm supporting this, but what is that link supposed to show me that http://www.cocoakrispies.com doesn't? Dekimasu 17:32, 6 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]
I'm unsure, i think it may be because it says www.cocopops.co.uk is the offical website. Matthew Fenton (contribs) 17:39, 6 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]
PS: I'll complete the movie now as tehre where no objections. Matthew Fenton (contribs) 17:40, 6 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]
  • Strong support The United States is the only country where the cereal is named Cocoa Krispies, and US bias has no place on Wikipedia, no matter where the Wikimedia foundation headquarters are. --Stevefarrell 20:47, 3 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]
  • Support which becomes strained when people act high and mighty about bias instead of just fixing things. There is obviously no conspiracy to denigrate the rest of the world through rejection of the venerated name of Coco Pops. Dekimasu 17:32, 6 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]
I'm sorry, but whenever an article about something that isn't US-specific (whether it's a cereal or whatever) favours the United States version of the name when that's not the name in the majority of other countries, that is bias. If you think I'm acting high and mighty, then so be it. --Stevefarrell 01:08, 7 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]
My issue wasn't with just saying there was bias, but with saying it has "no place on Wikipedia, no matter where the Wikimedia foundation headquarters are." We know that, so there's no need to state in such an argumentative way. That's all. Dekimasu 01:21, 7 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]
This should be moved back, it's a US based product from a US based company. Cocoas Krispies is the correct name and it was just re-named when they decided to release it in some countries. TJ Spyke 04:30, 22 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]
  • Strongest Opposition Possible This is a U.S. product that is sold in other countries under a different name. Its original name and the name it is and has always been known by in its country of origin is Cocoa Krispies, not Coco Pops. This is a pathetic attempt by some crackpot British folks to coopt what is undeniably a U.S. product and steal it as their own. This aggression shall not stand. It does not matter if the product is marketed as Coco Pops in every other country in the world but the United States. The name given to the product in in the country where it was created and where it is still hugely popular controls. Jhw57 (talk) 05:20, 18 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

"The name given to the product in in the country where it was created and where it is still hugely popular controls." cough cough Megadrive cough cough.. this kind of debate never ends, does it.. 86.167.5.10 (talk) 18:17, 29 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]
  • Support - it is most commonly known as Coco Pops worldwide. Jhw57's point is valid (though I could've done without the "crackpot British folks" bit), but I feel that Wikipedia must cater to a global audience, and this would be best served under the name that's most familiar to all countries. CNash (talk) 11:05, 16 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]
  • Support Cocoa Krispies is a tiny sub-cereal of Rice Krispies whereas Coco Pops is a tottally different Kellogs cereal with loads of sub-cereals of it's own. There is a lot of promotion and adverts for Coco Pops. --Sumirp (talk) 09:30, 30 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Australian?

[edit]

The article gives Coco's accent as australian, but he just sounds british to me. Being british myself, that may mean I'm not as able to notice such stereotypes, but what does everyone else think?

I'd say so (and several adverts feature Kylie the Kangaroo, who definitely does have an Australian accent). The article seems to be referring to the US commercials, which I've not seen; maybe he has a different voice actor in those. Daibhid C 13:20, 16 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

:( Canada

[edit]

Don't know if it's worth mentioning, but no form of Cocoa Krispies/Coco Pops are available in Canada. :( ( chicken queen 02:17, 19 October 2006 (UTC) )[reply]

Real Life Coco addition

[edit]

Not often remembered but factual. There was a real life version of Coco that did appear in ads and on the box of the cereal in the United States. This was more of a transition period in the means of fading out the animated version and going back to Snap Crackle and Pop. I have a picture of the box that was on shelves at this time while the ads focusing around the new commercials.

Real Life Coco used in the mid 90s in US

Couldn't find more then that but I'm hoping someone else remembers this too as I don't know how much more I could find on it. I wish I had the exact date too. It was either 96 or maybe a little earlier. But this version didn't last too long. I know that much. I do remember the ads well though. As I was so disapointed when they got rid of the animated version with the cool songs for this monkey that didn't talk while kids were eating the cereal talking to this new real life coco as if he understood them. Anyway i added the little bit about it into the mascots section here. If anyone remembers more details on the second version of coco that was used feel free to add accordingly. "Coco Krispies"

[edit]

Does anyone in the UK know if I'm dreaming an *earlier*, and very short-lived name change to "Coco Krispies" in the UK? (No, *not* the later "Choco Krispies", and not the one from the 60s, long before I was born!).

This would have had to be the the very early 80s (or a hairs' breadth from the end of the 1970s), but I don't remember any more.

It could have been another publicity stunt, but though I was young I definitely remember it because I much preferred the Coco Krispies name and was disappointed when they changed it back.

Please help clean up Mascots section

[edit]

Enough already with the trivia in the Mascots section. Wikipedia rules strongly discourage this type of inane trivia. Since most of the info in this section is about UK advert campaigns and I'm in the US, I'm requesting clean-up from UK-based editors. One final plea: Before adding more details to this cluttered, confusing section, ask yourself: Does this help improve the article? Or am I only adding this because I remember this cute advert on the telly?" Thanks, and may sanity be restored to this WP entry! Kinkyturnip (talk) 06:24, 20 August 2018 (UTC)[reply]

No longer made with real chocolate

[edit]

Comparing the current ingredients from Kellogg's site with older ingredient panels also available online ( example), it seems clear that Kellogg's removed semisweet chocolate from the ingredient list about a year ago, replacing it with maltodextrin and three kinds of food coloring.

Reviewers on Reddit and Kellogg's product page hate it. It seems like an important material change in the formula, and it also seems as if they may have had chocolate for the prior life of the product. It's difficult to find a proper cite, though, because Kellogg's has no reason to promote this cheaper reformulation. What's an appropriate way to call out this material (and frankly gross) change? 2600:1700:3FD1:F50:902B:1CE1:EA84:B8AB (talk) 12:50, 3 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
