Broadway shops
[edit]There is repeated insistance that the Broadway/Broad Lane shopping centre is in Clubmoor..Sorry this is not true. This is Norris Green, always has been. The user (62.30.208.91) has identified that this is in the Clubmoor ward. If this is the case, no problem with that but this does not mean that Broadway is in Clubmoor. The wards are prone to boundary changes and name changes and do not accurately represent an area. (For example Belle Vale ward covers Netherley too). This isn't technically a debate as the shops are and always have been Norris Green, it is an individual user who has shifted them in to the next district based on ward boundaries Babydoll9799 (talk) 09:18, 22 June 2009 (UTC)
- I have monitored this page and an editor is maintaining the insistance on including the nearby shopping district (known as Broadway) on the Clubmoor page. I have had a look and kept this but with a minor change - as it is only there on the basis it is within the Clubmoor council ward, which does matter...but the user is mistakingly misguided in to thinking that the Broadway shopping area is in Clubmoor; it isn't, this is and always has been Norris Green.
The council wards are arbitrary and are not the basis of what makes the districts up. Babydoll9799 (talk) 19:39, 23 June 2009 (UTC)
Norris Green itself as another editor would believe it exists, only does so because someone suggested its boundaries. Some people seem incapable of accepting that boundaries change over time. The boundary for the "traditional" Norris Green is different from the one accepted by all those who analyse it (National Statistics etc). It is reasonable to see it as different. To conitnually suggest that Broadway is in Norris Green is as useful and informative as suggesting Liverpool is still in Lancashire. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 94.168.50.8 (talk) 00:34, 21 March 2010 (UTC)
- You are making the mistake that council wards equate to communities or neighbourhoods. They don't. Council wards are drawn up purely with the intention of ensuring that each councillor represents approximately the same number of electors. Where possible, community interest is taken into account, but it is not the overriding concern. The names given to such wards can be extremely arbitrary, and are sometimes downright misleading. Ward boundaries are changed approximately every 10 to 15 years to ensure that electorate figures remain roughly equal, and ward names are often changed at the same time. The Office for National Statistics provide census figures for a number of areas, including council wards, civil parishes (where they exist) and urban statistical areas. They do not claim that such statistics relate to natural communities or neighbourhoods. Skinsmoke (talk) 10:26, 27 May 2013 (UTC)
Recent edits - history of Clubmoor
[edit]I just wanted to query the recent edits about history of Clubmoor from a fellow user. The edits are edits are possibly useful, but aside from some mistakes in grammar having had a look at this, it is unclear the location was Clubmoor, as the location on the final source for the railway line is at the back of Anfield Cemetery which is likely to be Walton or Anfield not Clubmoor.
- Also references to the area being a "very green area compared to some other places" and go on to say "The fields pretty well stretched to Walton Hall Park" are dubious. What is true is green spaces. The second part refers to baseball being played on "the field". What does that mean, "the field" ? I am not sure this all stacks up. Does anyone have any further take on this before i look at changing this? Babydoll9799 (talk) 13:35, 17 October 2011 (UTC)
