Serious gaps in the article
[edit]I started up this article because there was a request up for one and it seems that the character is pretty significant - being the star of his own series in the mid 1970s and a reasonably high profile revival and new ongoing series this year (2006).
However prior to researching the article I really knew nothing about the character - I was at best only vaguely aware of its existence prior to the announcement of the Sonja crossover, have never read a story featuring the character and even now have honestly little interest in the concept (!!!)
Consequently the article may be inaccurate in some points and vague in others. My research for the article was all online where there is a distinct lack of good, in-depth material exploring the series and character (that I could find anyway).
Here are the main points of the article which I hope a contributor more familiar with Claw lore may be able to expand:
Publication history
[edit]Who wrote the Claw backup strip in Warlord #48/49?
Are there any other major appearances by the character besides the ones mentioned?
Did Claw actually appear in a Star Hunters #7 or is merely mentioned in it?
Did he appear in the Tim Truman 1990s/2000s Creature Commandos series?
If so which version of Claw appeared?
Character Biography
[edit]This section is very vague as I found reliable biographical information on Claw was almost impossible to find online. Particuliar areas that need clarification include:
What is Claws modus operandi? does he simple wander into adventures (as the article at present suggest) or is he on some defined mission or quest?
Is the character altruistic - is he someone who tries to right injustices or is he simply protecting or advancing his own welfare in the stories?
Was his world ever properly defined as being Earth or not?
Is Occulas the main villain throughout the series? what other recurring villains, if any, appear in the series?
What are the details of the character's origin (and the origin of his deformed hand) as depicted in the original series?
Did #12 end on a cliffhanger where Claws deformed hand was cut off? if so, was this resolved in Cancelled Comics Cavalcade or in Warlord #48/49, in neither or in both?
Do the stories in Warlord #48/49 actually acknowledge the events of Cancelled Comics Cavalcade? do they contradict them? if they do then what are the contradictions?
What is the extent and nature of Claw's connection to Starfire II?
What is the background to the character being named an "eternal champions of the Sornaii" in Star Hunters #7? was this ever properly explained or mentioned again after this story?
What version of Claw appeared in Swamp Thing #115, Starman #55 and any other appearances between Warlord #48/49 and Red Sonja /Claw The Unconquered: Devil's Hands #1? Were any major events or changes to the character depicted in those appearances? Did those appearances indicate whether Claw is an alien or a character from prehistory?
Are the new Claw stories in the same continuity as the original series? if not, what are the main differences in his new depiction?
What new information about Claw's curse is revealed in the Red Sonja crossover? (solicitations suggest that the curse is a main part of the plot of the series)
Claw II
[edit]Does the Primal Force series indicate that the original Claw was an alien or a character from prehistory?
Does the series state definitively that the modern Claw is a descendant of the original Claw?
Is this even claimed in the series or is it vaguely alluded to? is the issue disputed in the series or does it any way become a part of the plot of any of the stories?
Is there any mention of how many generations have passed between the original Claw and the modern one?
Is the fate of the original Claw revealed or even hinted at?
Does the original Claw (or any other characters or elements from the original Claw the Unconquered series) appear in the series at all?
Is the modern Claw's curse identical to the original Claw's deformity?
What are the similarities between Claw the Unconquered and Claw II and what are the disimilarities?
What are the major events in the character's biography (his origin, how he joined Primal Force, his experiences with the team etc.)?
What status is Claw II left in at the end of the Primal Force series?
Has the character appeared again since the cancellation of Primal Force?
Thats a pretty exhaustive list of questions I guess, but if we can get them properly answered Id say the article could be pretty definitive.
With the lack (as far as I could find) of any in-depth exploration of Claw the Unconquered online I think that a definitive article here could become a useful and well used resource for readers interested in the background of the character, especially those introduced to the character thru Wildstorm's recent promotion of the character and the new series
If you know any of the answers to these questions please DONT BOTHER POSTING THE ANSWERS HERE - obviously its much better if you expend your efforts appropriately amending the actual article. Hueysheridan 06:05, 30 March 2006 (UTC)
